Forums - Sales - Sony CEO: Wii is "Successful"..."A Very Good Business Model"

And... What what? PS3 is going to be 450 in October?

Thats my guesstimation. And im sticking to it!

Oh yeah here is Stringers comments from the recent International Breakfast Convention:

“French Toast has been a successful enterprise, and a very good business model, compared with ours . . . because it’s cheaper,” Mr Stringer said in a video interview.

The question is by how much will they cut?

$500 will only give the mildest and shortest of boosts and it certainly didn't move any 20GBs.

$400 stalls XBox 360's ascension now.

And price cuts alone don't solve the problem (see Gamecube). If the people don't see anything valuable in the system the cuts will be for nothing.

They had better think this through.

WE ARE THE NATION...OF DOMINATION!

He's still being arrogant

When it was suggested by the interviewer that Wii might also be considered "more creative, more fun" Stringer replied, "No, no. Fun is in the eye of the experiencer... I think PlayStation 3 is following a particular trend of 1 and 2, and if you looked at the history of it, it’s a very similar history."

Also a PS3 price drop won't help, the 360 sales are slowing even at $399, PS3 would have to drop $300 to save it at this point.

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I don't know if it's arrogance or ignorance. I'm betting most of these CEOs have never played a video game in their life.

Fun is in the eye??? WTF is his problem. Honestly. Sorry, but if I want to have fun through the eye, i´ll watch a movie. Cheaper, more interesting, and I cana ctually do it with friends, not alone as most PS3 games will play. And how is the PS3 following a trend?

PS1 and PS2, consoles that were in a similar pricepoint of the others, had almost all the third party support, and were the biggest casual consoles. PS3 is everything the 1 and 2 weren´t. And that is a bad thing.
