Forums - Gaming - Which system will win?

is this question really being asked in july 2008???? it's almost like some time split where a question from 2005 has slipped through time space and landed in 2008!! It's obvious the wii has won home consoles and the ds has won portable consoles.

People were asking who would win the sixth generation until about three years in, as I recall, so this topic isn't so far out of line.  Having said that, unlike the sixth generation, this generation will see this question being asked to the very end, because even though Nintendo has already won a crushing victory for this generation, their critics will always dredge up some reason to discount the Wii from the current generation at every turn - you have to look no further than this very topic to find some of them.  Whether the PS3 would crush it, or the Wii was just a fad, or the Wii couldn't sell any *real* games, I've seen the detractors keep falling back to a different argument each time one is disproven (or in the case of the fad argument, play it long after it's sensible and/or sane to use it).  Even now, I'm still seeing console wars arguments that unfold as though the Wii doesn't exist; it's like watching everyone try to ignore the proverbial 800 pound gorilla in the room.

Wii. People buy game systems for the games. The Wii has by far the best games.

Looking at this weeks sales figures i would say it is almost a foregone conclusion that wii will win. PS3 would have to start to catch up ground pretty soon if it wants to even have a chance of catching the Wii. It seems like it could be capable of these sort of amazing sales regularly if supply permits. Also to those saying there are no franchises left for Nintendo to bring out. Well apart from the large amounts others have mentioned, i'd like to add ...... Chibi robo! This was a tremendous game last-gen and i think it would do amazing on the Wii what with motion controls. Especially as it will kind of be an existing franchise but with there only being one incarnation so far it will still be quite fresh, if that makes sense.

DON'T WIN ME CHIBI BUDDY DON'T WIN ME.

ANDY MURRAY:- GRAND SLAM WINNER!

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

Wii will win. People who believe the PS3 will win probably forgot that PS2 and PS1 sold over 100millions because of casual gamers. This generation, the same casual gamers who bought PS2s before are choosing Wii. They might start purchasing PS3s for a late PS3 boom, just like PSP is having, but it'll be too late to catch up.

Another one of these threads *sighs*

Cut all the "I've seen this before" crap. I want some real answers. I think it will be Wii, for all the obvious reasons. mainly it's lead over the PS3 and 360 and the ever growing amount of people wanting one. But it doesn't have the top games, (GTAIV, DMC4, COD4, etc.) Any reasons for PS3/360 or more for Wii?

Whats the point of this thread? Do you  want praise for nintendo and the wii because its obvious to everyone who isn't delusional that the wii has already won.

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

im not a fanboy, i have both an xbox 360 and a ps3, and my uncle has a wii (which i seldom get to play), and i have to say its ps3 in the long run. for the people who say a new console will come out early, why do you want that? do you want to throw away another 300 to 600 bucks on another console, the console that stays out the longest has the most strength and the biggest long-term appeal. and besides even if a new wii or xbox come out in 2012 or 2011, doesnt mean that the last gen consoles will stop selling completely. the ps2 did outsell wii and 360 and even ps3 in the 2006 holiday season. i dont want to spend another 1000 dollars on the 3 new consoles so quickly. and the only thing stopping the ps3 from 150 million sales, is price, seriously 500 to 600 bucks to play games? no thank you. i was lucky to get one by working for like 2 years part time. in the long run, ps3 by a mile, its getting better and better every month, compare the ps3 now, and its infamous launch, and then compare it in 2012. BIG DIFFERENCE.

The problem with the "PS3 will win in the long run" argument is that the console wars have always been heavily influenced by momentum: As one system pulls ahead of its competitors, it makes strides in third party support and public image, leading to a self-sustaining reaction where the winning system achieves overwhelming dominance against its competitors, as witnessed with the PSX, the PS2, and the DS, with the Wii set to follow the same trajectory.

As well, at no point in the console wars has a system ever lost so much momentum after taking a lead that it ultimately loses against a contemporary competitor (the Dreamcast and XBox 360 are exceptions, as they only built a lead by launching early; in that, it wasn't so much a matter of momentum loss as it was a lack of momentum relative to its competition).
