Forums - Sales - Lets discuss Square - Enix losses

I believe Square Enix needs to start making multi platform games. Almost 100% of their games are exclusive to one system or another. Either only DS, PS3, Wii, or Xbox 360. Its hard to develope for a fragmented fan base

Sometimes name brand is worth more than a few extra bucks.

Exactly why some developers refused to make games for Wii and earn that extra bucks by dumping shovelwares there... Epics for example.

I think you missed the point.  If they don't turn around and release some quality titles then the brand name will disappear along with all that cash.

Also, I don't know what shovelware from Epic you've been playing on the Wii, I thought they weren't going to develop games for it period.  Ubisoft has been the flavor of the month for Wii fanboys complaining about shovelware, but I don't care since i'm 360 only for now, with a PS3 in the eventual future.

Does that mean I could just start a thread saying almost all Western developers are losing money without any facts to back me up and... Oh wait, I thought video games industry grew...

well, if they lose to much money developing HD games, they can always turn to the DS.

Remember, there are no stupid questions. Just stupid people- Mr Garrison

THey still produce quality games with brand names that are not the main game. Yea dirge was crap. But crisis core was really really good, specially for a handheld. Id lost faith in SE until that game.

Yea i want FF 13 to be EXTREMEMLY epic. And stay exclusive so they can focus on one platform.

Owner of all consoles cept DS.....Currently in love with prototype!

Argh.....

Square Enix have not released any main cash games in the past 12mths and their DS profits are mostly just Japan. When they release the DQIX, FFXIII etc... console titles they will see profits again. Square need to learn though, if you want profit you need to release games on a regular basis.

The last big games I can recall from them are FFXII and KH2 and they were both released in 2006. Nothing on the PS3 at all, nothing on the Wii worth noting, nothing on the the 360 worth noting.

Crisis Core as awesome as it was is not that big of a release but considering what else Square have put out, the title is huge.

In short, when Square release their big franchises you will see the profits rise accordingly.

Square has a lot of money going into development of the White Engine and adapting Unreal engine. They need to release more microgames, casual games, portable games, etc. Maybe make a first person shooter or a game where you can rape prostitutes... Then the money will really start rolling in.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Well fine, I have checked and I must admit i was rather bad informed regarding that statement. i checked on some major companies fiscal reports and will some of them lost money in the past, they improved this year. I made that statement acording to what I read some time ago, I screwed up there yeah, but what gets my attention is the fact that you do such a fuzz about something that isn't really important to the main theme of the thread.

And yes Square has benn losing money for about two to three fiscal years in the past, including this one.

So, just chill down lol

Sqaure enix should - release kingdom hearts 3 multiplatform so they can sell 2-3* the number of copies at least.

Kinda be funny for all those kingdom hearts threads if it gets released on BOTH the Wii and PS3 with the 360 along for the ride as well. Who wins all those bets then?

Tease.

Well, one reason SE are taking longer to makes games is because they are also trying to make a great engine from the ground up that works on wii, 360, and ps3. Epic's unreal engine has been around for a decade and they have been able to build up it, Japanese developers used to be able to just create a game from the ground up and make money, that isn't feasible any more. They need the middle ware to speed up the development process and make it cheaper, since they didn't start a long time ago like in the west they are having to play catch up now. Once they catch up, things will be fine.

and jenny, to make the best game possible, it needs to be exclusive. Not to say good games can't be made multiplatform, but doing that won't take advantage of the strength of a system, they would need to find a middle ground and that just compromises a game.

btw, add me to the list of skeptics about all the Japanese companies losing money, they sell plenty of software, most more than enough to cover development costs.
