Forums - Gaming - Is it possible for the Wii to have games like Bioshock, MSG 4, and GTA 4?

The market leader is never the most powerful console, and developers always port down their games to the market leader to get to the bigger userbase. This generation it's taking a little longer due to the unexpected success of the Wii, but it will happen.

RE4 was ported down from GC to PS2 and looked like crap. It happens all the time.

Call of Duty 4 was "TOO POWERFUL FOR THE WII" and now CoD5 is coming out on the Wii at the same time as the other platforms and the developers say it's exactly the same game but with different graphics.

You just don't backport a game designed for 512M of memory on a console with 91M of memory like that.............

And yes, people need to realize that last gen all 3 consoles were fairly similar, that's not the case this gen ( which explains why you don't have that many Wii third party, it's not only third party fault, but Nintendo is paying for putting out a console so radically different from the 2 others).

And that put aside I'm not sure Nintendo is looking for the kind of advertising a GTA4 hot coffee mod could bring them lol :P

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

You can't seriously say that the difference between the GC and the PS2 was the same as the one between the PS3 and the Wii...

And I would disagree that RE4 PS2 looked like crap...

And CoD5 isn't CoD4, it's not even developed by the same studio...

Besides watch when CoD5 starts selling less than CoD4 while it will support 1 more platform and have bigger console installed base when it comes out and then wait for CoD6 back to HD consoles only...

I shall respond to your 4 points in order.

1. I didn't say that, but in an earlier post I mentioned that both GTA3 an FFX were ported back to NES.  (I know I know, porting from 3-D to 2-D isn't as hard as porting from 4-D to 3-D.)

2. Compared to the GC version, it did.

3. I don't know how that's relevant.

4. You're predicting the sales of the next 2 games in the series like they're fact?  Wishful thinking.

No Wii can not produce HD output. Wii's output is at 480p. HD is 720p 1080i or 1080p or higher.

If FPS games/MGS and GTAIII could be done on inferior hardware to the Wii, these games could be done on the Wii better than the previous generation. The question is, would they. Its a lot of work for a port and the returns have to justify the expense and the opportunity cost of having your teams do porting work instead of working on new content.

Tease.

No, it is not possible. :)

Wii has like 90mb of memory, that is not enough for any of those games. Unless you just make the textures white or have a "loading" on your screen every 5 minutes. Wii's gpu is a slightly upgraded version of GC:s gpu, combine that with old ppc-processor which clocks at 730mhz. That is not enough, unless you dumb down physics/AI.

And of course, wii has only Pro logic. You would be missing a lot with stereo sound.

MGS4 on the wii would be quite frankly, embarassing

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Correct the wii does have 90mb of memory, but while this doesn't compensate for the shortage of memory I would like to say that the wii's memory is a lot faster in the ration of clockspeed/bandwidth than both that of the ps3s and 360s. This is because some of the ram is 1Tsram which has far less latency than the GDDR3 and XDR ram that the rest of the wiis ram is, the 360 uses, and the ps3'uses. Now while this doesn't compensate too much, it helps considerably. Now for the power pc being old? It is based of the 730CL which was shipped in 2006. And to top it it is even better than the 730CL. Also the abilitiy to run Out Of Order code while the 360 and ps3 both run in-order code allows for about double the performance if they are at the same clock speed. So what ever amount of times you think the 360s cpu is compared to the wiis cut it in half. Now the cell is tricky because it actually benefits from this In-Order code. so I'm not going to talk about that. Now as for it only being a slight up grade from the GC's gpu, how bout I tell you that everything in terms of numbers is doubled. I have no doubt that it also has double the piplines, and a more advanced TeV unit. So I wouldn't call the upgrade small. I haven't seen any ps360 game that has Physics or AI out of the capability of the ps2 let alone the wii with the exception of GTA IV. I don't get where you are going with the sound, but only audiophiles would be able to tell the difference. So while the wii isn't AS powerful as the ps360, its definately a capable system, and far ahead of all of the last gen systems. If it didn't have so little ram, you may have seen HD graphics on the wii, just not as good as they are on the ps3 or 360. So its major bottleneck is the ram, but it already has faster ram, and more ram then the xbox so way ahead of last gen. I beleive somebody said that the wii is comparable to the original Xbox earlier in this thread. I laugh at that statement. ALso we know too little right now about the wii's capabilities because of nintendo's secrecy.

id say never.

wii can only do gamecube esque games aswell as mini game collections.

all the top high rated games will only ever be on ps360 imo
