What exactly set me off? I made a general post to everybody and you're the only one that responded (angrily too) and called me a name. I'm just surprised you get so angry for being corrected in any way. Your blood pressure's getting way too high buddy. Like I said last time, calm down Zuccy, you'll bust an artery. It's not the end of the world.

Actually if you remember your first post you started off by calling everyone else mentally retarded and that they must be stupid for not noticing somehting which you so clearly noticed.  My next post thus was filled with sarcasm which of course you took offensively and then started ranting like I was overreacting.  That's what people do when they are mad they turn it around the other way.  And when I finally did it again you twisted it around again.  Seriously your arguements have been nothing more than pathetic.  It is noted that you started off with the name calling and then tried to back out of it.  Now I'm ending it because its what I do.

Serious Sam should be on top 10.

Please make another Serious Sam!

Great list. I totally agree with Top 5 list of FPS shooters. Half-Life series(2>1) , Doom series(2>1>3), Halo series(CE>3>2), Call of Duty series(4>2>1>3) and Counter Strike were all excellent.

Well I'm a bit confused on acouple titles on the list. Mainly I though Light Gun titles (or traditional shooters) were in a different genre.
I agree that Half Life is unquestionably number 1.
For number 2 I am tempted to say Quake. I am trying to remember which was the First FPS engine that supported Y-axis control, can anyone help me with that. I kinda thought that was the difference between Quake and DOOM, but I could be wrong. This to me, was a difining point in the genre's evolution that was absolutely essential.
3rd: Wolfenstein 3D, No question. It was pitifully simple, and pitifully enthrawling. It started the genre and it was brilliant.
For me the rest was really a toss-up, which I don't think can really be settled because everyone has there preferences and endless Keyboard and mouse 4-ever vs. Whatever I like to be able to sit with my friends and not have lag f*** noobs over vs. I started gaming with Halo!
Honorable mentions from me go as follows: DOOM2: Boosted the genre wether or not people feel it did or didnt deliver, It made FPS here to stay. Goldeneye 007: Solid game, fully fleshed out, and the deep multiplayer added an element that pulse-dial games of the past (which did come first) ultimatly didn't have. Medal of Honor: I don't think I need to explain, very hard work by those folks. Last and most certainly not least (please no tomatoes) Turok:Dinosaur Hunter. I don't knoe who of yu guys remember its debut but I sure as hell do and it was impressive to say the least. The number one thing I believe it deserves credit for is controls. Absolutely fluid and orgasmic. Amazing design and a small amount of interactivity with surroundings. It was a much better 1 player game in comparison to Goldeneye. but obviously no multiplayer which I believe kept it from Game of the Year. Forget 2,3,RW and skip to Evolution, which sucked, but my god NICE TRY. If only they had made it a good game. It to this day has the best enemy AI I have ever dealt with. Halo 3 did impress me but it wasn't TE. You actually had to figure out what to do against them and trick them with grenades and shit. Problem was the wanted it to be star wars or DIno Crises meets Duke Nukem! or I don't knoe what the hell they were thinking....probably we are gonna lose our jobs so, lets just collect our last paycheck... yeah.. please comment... sorry for making yu read this much.

people just don't get, that they mean the _franchises_ *sigh* - did you read the explanations ? I think you didn't ...

I think they only put one game from a series. For example Quake - means Quake, Quake 2, Quake 3 Arena, Quake 4 ... etc

Ironic, its pretty much PC + some console games.

But I guess the roots of the genre are on the PC so there would be a far greater history there.

Tease.

Yes I would expect most to be PC, considering that's where the genre first took off on. Remember it really didn't become popular on consoles til Goldeneye 007 and really didn't even take off from that til after Halo.

Goldeneye should ALWAYS be on the top of these lists. To anyone who says it hasn't aged well... actually try playing it ;)

It's aged incredibly well, it's still very fast paced, the shooting mechanics are just perfect, no other FPS feels as satisfying to play. The mission and unlock system is unrivalled, a multiplayer that has only been bettered by games from the same team (Timesplitters for you dummies!), Goldeneye remains the best FPS ever.

Yawn @ HL at the top... HL2 was much better. Doom should be much higher as well.

By the way - I've never heard of Powerslave before? Does it have an Iron Maiden soundtrack? If not - I ain't interested!

TELL ME WHY I HAD TO BE A POWERSLAVE! *DUN DUN DUNDUN DUNDUNDUN DUNDUNDUNDUN...* AND IN MY LAST HOUR I'M A SLAVE TO THE POWER OF DEEEEEAAAATTTTH! SLAVE TO THE POWER OF DEEEEEEEEEAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTHHH. SLAAAAAAAAAAAAVE TO THEEEE POOOWWEEEEEERRRR OOOFF DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTHHHHH!!!!!

Anyone advocating the removal of counter-strike clearly needs to get their sense of perspective re-examined. Its the most successful mod ever and its still one of the most played FPS's in the world. Plus its a tournament favorite.
