metroid, like it or not is a FPS.

1. In first person

2. You have a gun

3. you shoot anything that moves

So yes it is a FPS and really should not be on that list to be honest

EDIT: Metroid Prime is a first-person game. And it involves shooting. Why is Metroid Prime not a first-person shooter?

Half-life is superior to HL2

Halo, Wolfenstien and the rail shooters are fine

COD4 is over-rated and 1 is more deserving of the spot

CS is superior to Unreal in every way

 

if you read the descriptions, then you would know that it means the series as a whole

What exactly set me off? I made a general post to everybody and you're the only one that responded (angrily too) and called me a name. No metroid has more adventuring aspects. Samus doesn't have a gun she has a beam built into her suit. Samus uses this beam mostly for puzzles, and to kill enemies that get in her way. You only have one beam rather than many weapons in an fps. You upgrade like you would in an action adventure game. it is far less linear and you have an open world/worlds. You don't only use guns, and you get powerups. Shooters are a subgenre of action games, while the metroid series has always been an action adventure. If metroid is an fps, then zelda is a beatem up.

I know this comes up in every "best of" thread, but "best" does not mean "influential." "Best" means best. I know that Goldeneye redefined the genre, but there's been a ton of better console FPS's since.

 

 Well if I was to use that logic and make my own list hardly any games from previous gen would be in it. Best games of all team means how good of a game it was at it's time. It's obvious Halo 3 has a lot more features, HD graphics, and a long lasting appeal, but it wouldn't be fair to judge previous games simply because they were 6 years behind the timing of this post. People can correct me if i've missed the general conception in these "best XYZ of all time threads" on how to judge them, and if so i've confused a lot of ppl :P

Also, I was slightly surprised perfect dark wasn't in it. I guess if the launch title was a bit better it would have made it. Perfect Dark was badass for the N64!
