No metroid has more adventuring aspects. Samus doesn't have a gun she has a beam built into her suit. Samus uses this beam mostly for puzzles, and to kill enemies that get in her way. You only have one beam rather than many weapons in an fps. You upgrade like you would in an action adventure game. it is far less linear and you have an open world/worlds. You don't only use guns, and you get powerups. Shooters are a subgenre of action games, while the metroid series has always been an action adventure. If metroid is an fps, then zelda is a beatem up.
