Forums - Sales - How much money is Sony losing with the PSN?

Hey everyone,

You guys know PSN is free, while the competitor wants to have a fee for online play. That means, Sony will make no money at all with online gaming. I just want to know, how much money is Sony losing with the PSN. They have to update it, develope new features, pay the servers and much more. Sony is still in the red with every PS3 sold, they are even more in the red as soon as a PS3 gets online, how do they want to reach a return of their investments? Does anybody have any numbers for the PSN? would be very helpful!!!

Thanks and /discuss

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Well sony do sell software on PSN don't they ? which will at the very least cover the costs of PSN .

So the answer i believe is nothing.

I think sony are banking on making any money back through selling advertisement on Home when / if it launches. PSN is just a stop gap to keep people happy until Home.

LOL. PSN doesn't even have software and an install base comparable to XBL so I doubt they are not losing out on it. Including HOME and I bet they are losing a lot of money. Looks like MS are the smarts ones and cashing in big time and we can see the effects(timed exclusives, DLC GTA4)

The PSN is probably losing money and will keep doing so until it starts getting money from:

1. Movies
2. Advertising, which HOME would be especially good for as Sony will be running trailers in its theatre area, and they will probably bring in some kind of advertising for products that gamers like such as energy drinks ( a little Mountain Dew machine lol) , etc

I kind of doubt he'll get that far.

OT: They are making up the money on Downloadable games, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue and Warhawk alone probably made up for a good portion of the costs. Plus they are probably having the Developers or Publishers pay for PSN on the back end somewhere. Like in their licsenceing fees. I doubt they are losing any money really.

I own all three current consoles and a great gaming rig, now thats out of the way.

This space Reserved for the Nuggets of Wisdom dropped by Bladeforce:

"Why post something like this when all it will get is PS3 owners blinded to reality replying? BOTH THE PS3 AND BLUE-RAY WILL NOT LAST 3 YEARS! TECHNOLOGY CHANGED TOO FAST!"

"is it Wii FIt that has sold as many as PS3's sold? Thats a LOL Look at the total sales of software is it just me that sees Nintendo titles hitting 10m+ and you say they arent making a difference? Another LOL!"

"Hell, with all the negative hype Sony spin, people just aren't interested cost is too high and to get the true HD experience (1080p, 7.1 surround) you will need a $1000+ system. THAT IS GOING TO DO IT IN A RECESSION! PS4 will not happen"
