Forums - Sales - Rare reaches milestone - 100 million games sold

http://www.rareware.com/company/news.html

"11/6/08: That's Numberwang

100 million. Not only is that the number of names on my imaginary petition to keep Maroon 5 out of a recording studio, it's also the total number of software units sold by Rare since it blossomed into cheeky existence back in 1985.

We only recently passed this milestone, so we thought we might as well run a bit of a news story on it. The result of releasing more than 100 titles across systems ranging from NES to Xbox 360 does seem like something worth mentioning, even if a couple of those titles were Taboo and Sesame Street 123 (everyone has to eat, you know).

Recent assistance in achieving the 100 million figure has come from the likes of Perfect Dark Zero (over 1.5m units to date), Kameo: Elements of Power and Viva Piñata (approaching 1m apiece). With Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts and two new Viva Piñata titles on Xbox 360 and DS set to launch in the coming months, plus of course all the other intriguing projects further down the line that we're too wicked and calculating to tell you about, we don't anticipate a dramatic sales downturn any time soon. Does that sound a bit pompous? Sorry, us Brits struggle to 'do' PR sometimes. "

Looking at vgchartz numbers for those games mentioned perfect dark zero seems to be about the same, viva pinata is overtracked and kameo is undertracked.

Rare gave us GoldenEye. I couldn't care less what they are doing now or what they will do in the future. They gave us GoldenEye. I'm forever thankful for that.

''Hadouken!''

That's more than 1 third of Mario .... well done Rare.

I consider GoldenEye greater than any Nintendo game.

Well, 33 million is just Donkey Kong games (DKC 1, 2, 3, Land 1, 2 and DK 64 + Diddy Kong racing). 5,15 million for Banjo Kazooie series. 10.5 million for Goldeneye + Perfect Dark. Almost 2 million for Starfox Adventures. The 360 releases add another 3,5 million to the numbers.

Hmm.

I still consider Goldeneye as the best FPS, but I love Windwaker too much.
