Megaman 9 to be the first game to hit Wiiware, XBLA, and PSN

By Frank Caron | Published: June 27, 2008 - 10:59AM CT

Now that Nintendo's WiiWare has leveled the playing field across the board for downloadable content, it was only a matter of time before a game would be slated to hit all three console platforms simultaneously. Capcom will be the first to take the plunge, as the company has announced that Megaman 9 will be hitting the PlayStation Network, the Xbox Live Arcade, and Wiiware.

Megaman 9 is currently on the company's E3 roster, listed as a PSN and XBLA release. However, leaked scans from the latest edition of Nintendo Power reveal that the title is also going to be heading to WiiWare. Megaman 9 returns the series to its 2D roots, opting for classic sprites and old-school gameplay rather than glitz and glamor. Imagine that: a brand new "retro" release. But, for Blue Bomber fans, this may be just what the doctor ordered.

According to the text of the article, the game is being developed by Inti Creates, a group of long lost Capcom employees who worked on the Megaman Zero and Megaman ZX franchises. Expect further coverage of the title to follow, as well as impressions from E3 later in July.

Someone knows where is  Capcom's E3 list ?

Now this is a blogger that knows how to read...

"While the article only confirms a Wii version, Ars Technica claims that Capcom has already announced Mega Man 9 will be shown for both Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network at E3 next month. We've yet to see any evidence of that however, but releases on those platforms would make a lot of sense for the company."

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Maybe the PS3 and 360 are too powerful for 8-bit-style graphics.

There's nothing on Capcoms press release page, and IGN's big E3 list was updated today and does not include it.

Edit: It probably will come out for PSN and Live, but there is no confirmation.  Kotaku did not check the source.  Actually, I think it would be cool if the PSN version let you play it on your PSP.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

I remember reading an article on kotaku about "where is megaman."

In it the author commented "... and where is Megman? Usually by now he would be whoring himself all over the place..."

This is just a lol.

Nope, I would lay money on the HD versions outselling the Wii, remember, vast majority of Wii owners are grandmothers and soccer moms and younger kids who didnt play the original Megaman. People that have the money to drop on a 400 dollar console in their late twenties are the people a nostolgic retro megaman is aimed at, and a majority of those people are PS360 owners.

I own all three current consoles and a great gaming rig, now thats out of the way.

This space Reserved for the Nuggets of Wisdom dropped by Bladeforce:

"Why post something like this when all it will get is PS3 owners blinded to reality replying? BOTH THE PS3 AND BLUE-RAY WILL NOT LAST 3 YEARS! TECHNOLOGY CHANGED TOO FAST!"

"is it Wii FIt that has sold as many as PS3's sold? Thats a LOL Look at the total sales of software is it just me that sees Nintendo titles hitting 10m+ and you say they arent making a difference? Another LOL!"

"Hell, with all the negative hype Sony spin, people just aren't interested cost is too high and to get the true HD experience (1080p, 7.1 surround) you will need a $1000+ system. THAT IS GOING TO DO IT IN A RECESSION! PS4 will not happen"

I think that those who have played megaman and would be still interested in it would have bought wii. But that is just my guess. :)

I guess this is good news for Mega Man fans.
