Forums - Nintendo - E3 08, Ninty's definitive/deciding event in this console war?

I feel that its like it, its the moment I think that will decide what console win the console war, yeah, the Wii wins in terms of sales but theres still the casuals falacy that still in gamer's minds. I think this is what Nintendo will do the blietzkreig tactic absorbing the core and casual gamer by announcing 1st and 3rd party games that both casuals and core gamers enjoy.

When SONY and MS will try to applease the casual market Nintendo just simply suprised attack and just do what they do best, announced games. During the last E3 theyre always discussing into casual and expanding market make it as a bore fest but now in this coming E3, I think they'll just announcing games no more stats, no more expanding audience gibberish, no more casual thing. Just announce games!

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out

Erm... the console war is already decided.

1. Wii
2. PS3
3. 360

Here is what I expect from this E3:

1- Lots of games announced for the Wii, which will kill all the myths about Wii's software lineup.
2- Sony and Microsoft announce their WiiTooMotes.

If both of these happen, the ensuing meltdown will be unprecedented.

I pray every night that that's just an unsubstantiated rumour.  Please God, don't let that be true.

If it happens, it will provide us with entertainment value on these and other forums, and it will allow for some console strategy games with decent controls. In the extreme, it could even allow me to buy RE5 for the 360 if they implemented those controls there.

Why don't you want it to happen?

Because it'll look desperate.  Sony doing home is far more ambitious than Mii's and their online strategy is fairly different from Microsofts, but copying a the remote from Nintendo will look like copying, as there isn't much more that you can do to flesh the controller out, but there was much to do to flesh out the Mii service in Home.  It'll just look like copying, while the Home is more comprehensive than just an avatar.  And I think when people copy ideas, it's just wrong, looks bad, and never works out good.

That's precisely the same reason why I think it will be entertaining, but I understand that it depends on one's perspective.

I doubt Nintendo really cares about some oddball perception in "gamer's minds".

The whole "crybaby gamer" scenario that is playing out is like a spoiled two year old that gets a new baby brother in the house.

Really though, one can talk about videogames easier with a random person now than you could five years ago.  That's great.  Who really cares if we are all playing the same games.

Back to topic though:  the defining moment  was the introduction Wii-mote.  Not that the defining moment is everything.  They also have excellent branding (one syllable), low cost hardware (that they haven't cut the price on yet,), 100% penetration of unique peripherals in their userbase (Wii-mote/Nunchuk), and a very fast selling periheral (Wii Fit).

Wii-motes from MS/SONY are an eventuality unless those corporations are stupid.  It was estimated that Nintendo lost a billion dollars of potential sales of Wii last Christmas in North America.  You can add two points to this:

 - MS and SONY also lost this potential billion dollars revenue by not having a competing product on the market

 - no competition only meant that the billion dollars revenue was deferred for Nintendo.  How could SONY/MS leave Nintendo is such a wonderful position?

They will propably announce few mario-related games, or maybe a kirby game!
