Forums - Gaming - Cameras in games (specifically for psp)

Is the camera really so hard to program in games?  I've been playing Ratchet and Clank: Size matters because I was able to get it for $15 and even though the camera really isn't that big of a problem, it is still an unwanted distraction.  And in the gametrailers review of Secret Agent Clank they complaign about the camera, and both games are made by the same studio.  The camera in Daxter was better than R&C:SM, but still an annoyance (made by different studio).  Is programming a camera really that difficult?  I find that most games that have a camera that follows you and relies on the shoulder buttons to move around doesn't work to well but that is what the psp has to use since you can't map it to the right analog stick.  Why can't more games have a fixed, "smart" camera like in God of War?  Some advantages are you are able to "hide" things "behind" the camera and you free up the shoulder buttons for uses in other things.  Does anyone else feel this way about this?

The camera is definitely a nusance, and can definitely detract from the game for me. Sony made a very poor decision not giving the psp a 2nd analogue stick.

only one response? I'm suprised since you kind of need to see what you are doing in a game and this being 2008 you would think that companies would have figured this whole camera thing out by now.

Implemanting a camera in a game isn't very easy as it relies on how well the code is programmed and unfornately, programmers sometime code poorly
