Forums - Microsoft - GRID sale is pretty low, is racing genre dead in US?

I just got around to play GRID (busy with Ninja Gaiden 2).

Anyway, it's a really good racer, slightly more arcade than sim but overall a solid.  The graphic is real good, 30fps is noticeable after you play Forza2 and GT5P it's definitely lack the "smothness" but it's not bad.  Car models look very good, and in some way nicer than GT5P due to lack of shimmering and jaggieness.

But I noticed even big name like GT5P is doing so-so as far as sales go (in USA) already see it being discounted in several places, PGR4 a solid racer last year was pretty much DOA and went on clearance so fast, Burnout Paradise despite some hate is another solid racing games that already see being discounted (the dev. even working hard on add-on) and now GRID ... I can't even find on-line race today.

It seems Euro-land is the last bastion of racing gamers...

A lot of racing games have come out lately, IMO. There is a glut of them kind of like there is a glut of FPS's.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Gran Turismo 5 says hi.I don't think the Racing genre is dead.

Simulation racing is boring.

The thing is that racing games have to offer something unique in order to stand out....

Competing against GT is not the way.

They have to look for ways to expand

Arcade racing is boring.See I can sound factual too.

Who said anything about being factual. I merely stated my opinion. This is in fact a forum. A place for stating opinions.

@blue-ocelot

Please at least read before you post ... this is not NeoGaf.

Even GT5P the king of racing game didn't do that spectacular.  It sell well in Europe but in the US it didn't do that spectacular and I already see it on sale.

I agree that GRID does sound kinda dumb .. but the game even got decent rating.

Mario Kart is selling really good, so the racer genre is alive here.

If the game is not called

Gran turismo

or Mariokart then i dont think we are going to see good sales
