I find it hard to choose between them to be honest. So far this generation, Japan has given us Mario Galaxy, Brawl, Metal Gear Solid 4, and we have the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII, Resident Evil 5, Kingdom Hearts 3 and many more, while the West has given us Call of Duty 4, GTA4, Halo 3, Metroid Prime 3 and the upcoming God of War 3, Killzone 2, Gears 2, etc.

Personally, I've found myself enjoying Western games slightly more this generation compared to last.

Any thoughts?

Ummm I think they are both equally good this gen. There are quality games from both sides.

Sadly i prefer Western games since those are the only ones ive played and i dont have enough experence with japanese games.... but i will take suggestions as to which ones i should try :D (i got a PS3 with BC and a wii)

So far this gen, I think the west has been stronger overall. This could change within a year's time though, as it seems that Japan is only late to the party instead of having lost their abilities to make great games.

But in general I need games from both factions. The best from both do so much to push the medium forward.

Western games, because they usually have better stories and are more varied.

You mean the dozens of FPS and TPS games coming from western dev's are more varied then the completely random, unique and innovative games coming out of Japan?

 Random unique and innovative games only work if they're good.

Both, but so far this gen I have played a lot more western games than Japanese games.
