Forums - Sales - Some sony fans to be dissapointed with FFXIII sales and its effect on ps3?

That is true, but what would be the point of making all those systems and continuing making the systems if they don't sell?  You could make less systems and sell those off and find ways to make it cheaper.  And then instead of having a stockpile of systems that were more expensive to make you have systems that were cheaper to make going through to retail.

@cwbys21 FF games never had large legs, and  usally get most their sales in the first month or two. I don't see it being on shelves for 24 months going to help it reach too far.
So FFX sold its 7 million in the first couple months and then sat of store shelves for 2 years?  And FF12 sold its 5 million by Christmas and has sat on store shelves neglected since then?

Well in japan FFX sold  2,418,291 out of its lifetime of 3mil console in 10 weeks. Se yes after the first few months it doesn't sell to much percent of its total.

@colonelstubbs OF course there will be an effect, but it won't be as big as some sony fans are hoping for. They say that it will save the ps3 in japan. I say it will affect it for a few weeks, but then sales will go back to the normal 10k or close to it.

I think the barometer will be the sales of Metal Gear Solid 4, because that's the only completely huge ps3 exclusive... If it continues to sell well then I think FFXIII will follow.

That's a short-sighted view, colonelstubbs. One week of boosted sales is meaningless. Even a month or boosted sales is not that significant. A full-fledged permanent effect on sales, however, is quite significant. Most rational people predicted that MGS4 would have a short-term effect, but not a long-term one. And most rational people are also predicting that for FF13.

 It depends.

MGS4 roughly increased the PS3 installed base by 5% by itself in Japan, that is not totally meaningless, especially considering the console has been out for 19 months there.......

FFXIII has the potential to increase it by 10% when it comes out.

Not the millions of consoles some people are dreaming off, but tell any console maker that you have a game that will increase the size of their install base by 10% the month it comes out and all they are going to answer you is : 'where do I sign ?'...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

What does that have to do with this discussion?

@blu-ocelot Why don't you stop trolling and tell me why I'm wrong.

Percentage increases are meaningless. Only raw numbers have any real impact. A 5% increase means only about 100,000 new users for the PS3 in Japan, whereas for the Wii it means about 300,000. Smart developers don't look at percentage increases, they look at raw numbers.

We can use MGS4 as a crude sort of litmus paper for FF13. At the moment, I wouldn't worry too much about the sales of FF13. It'll sell fine, FF games have always had a very devoted user base. On the other hand, I can't see it hurling the PS3 into first place in Japan.

It was a response to many people who either said the FFXIII will be the best selling FF, FFXIII will sell more than 7 million(which I mostly say why it won't), and/or FFXIII will save the ps3 in japan. Alot of people said all three.
