Forums - Microsoft - IGN reviews Operation Darkness...

Still going to rent it or buy it. They gave EDF2017 a 6.9, so I don't care :-p

I think I'm going to have to buy this game just to see how terrible it is for myself.

And I'm probably more than half serious too

I was actually pleasantly surprised the last time I tried a game that was supposed to be utter trash and that was Unlimited SaGa (yes i know, it was a while back). I actually quite enjoyed that although it took quite a pasting by a lot of people.

Was that game really that bad? I remember thinking about picking it up when I saw a used copy of Unlimited SaGa for 150 yen (under $1.50), but I remember that I really thought SaGa Frontier 2 was crap a long time ago. I bought that for the PS1 way back along with Final Fantasy Tactics(great game!), but I regretted purchasing SF2 for like $40 or $50 that I paid for it :(

Well i actually thought it was pretty good.

Being a SaGa game it was always going to be extremely not normal, but it all depends on how you like your games, I guess.

The graphics hardly moved, most were 2 or 3 frame sprite animations but it had awesome hand painted bits and fantastic music.

The combat and equipment was a little...well...shit but overall not bad. The game plays more like an advanced "tactics" game and less like an average JRPG style game.

Especially seeing that you can probably pick it up for a fiver if you can find it in a bargain bin I'd say maybe give it a try.

I just don't feel that it's everyones cup of tea.

I spent 40 precious minutes of my life downloading the demo on my 360 and 2 frustrating minutes trying to pass the incomprehensible menus and controll the spinning camera.
I think 2,5/10 is wayyyy to indulgent

Same with me, except I got about 5 minutes into the demo, a nazi shoots this guy with glasses and I lose the game.

It's getting bad reviews across the board, it seems. Ah well; guess we'll have to wait for a good offering from Atlus.

@tombi123: And PS3 fanboys listed Lair as a "AAA game" prior to its being released. Seems like the count's down for fanboys across the board. =P

I don't think anyone has ever kidded themselves about Operation: Darkness in terms of how awesome it was going to be. It's like EDF2017 - far from perfect, but is great if you like the genre.

Good example of the hate for certain genres (which are very similar to O:D):

IGN gave Dai Senryaku 7 for PS2 (the budget version with all kinds of new addons), a 4.3.

Dai Senryaku 7 was one of the BEST tile-based strategy games out there. It's old school, but it's robust, tons of strategy/depth, fun, and customizable (a rarity for console strategy games)....Yet IGN blasted it at 4.3

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I have never heard of this game...

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

True, true. You could also mention how every good Rogue-like released in the last decade has received awful reviews from nearly every website. I guess there's just some genres that reviewers hate.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

It's about time Bomberman Act Zero got some competition. Next up on the chopping block...Spectral Force 3!

Its looking like its going to be really bad across the board for this game. It got a 2 out of 10 from "Official Xbox Magazine"

Im not sure who would have still been interested in this game after trying the demo.

Is this the game where you fight Hitler?
