Earlier today I dismantled my 60gb PS3 (refurb replacement of a launch unit) to apply better thermal paste (not the cheap sour cream looking stuff) to the CPU and GPU. Everything went fine (I've taken apart and reassembled many of my consoles when they go out of warranty), and it booted up like normal when I turned it on.
Since I had been playing MGS1 for the past few days, I hadn't bothered to update the thing. I decided to do that today, and had the PS3 download the update through the 'net. It downloaded okay, restarted, began updating and....
BAM!
Error 8002F14E....the update failed. It said it would try again....
.....and once again, at around 56%.....same thing.

The thing tried one more time and failed, and told me to call tech support. Screw that, I'm not paying $xxx.xx to get it fixed when it's out of warranty. Needless to say, I was ready to kick the black brick at this point. I had to flip the power switch to turn it off.
I turned it on again and let it run through again. I went to my PC and started reading up on the "8002F14E" error code, and to my dismay saw that most of the time it resulted in having to get your system replaced. I switched the video on my tv from my PC to my PS3 again and to my surprise....
Hallelujah!!! It was at 100%! It restarted and booted up fine! 
So, my PS3 narrowly avoided an untimely demise. Kind of funny considering that my SCPH-1001 PS1 that I use for music died the night before.
Has anyone else had problems with firmware updates?
