Forums - Sony - MGS4 Cutscenes: In-game or not?

The one thing I hated about the solid eye was the battery. You give me camo that can change colors, but the solid eye runs out of battery in about ten minuets? Then not using it or 30 seconds recharges the battery?

I can understand trying to limit the players use of the solid eye so it doesn't become a crutch, but the battery was more of a nuisance than an incentive to do rely on different techniques. It sorta reminded me of the doom 3 flashlight, but not as dumb.

Spoiler Alert:

If you use the Mk II/Mk III to wander around the Nomad during the briefings, you'll not only find a camera with which to take photos during your missions, but also a battery for the Solid Eye to extend its charge. But the battery is really just an additional play mechanic that the player must stay aware of like Snake's health and psyche meters.

Of course once the player is good enough, they won't even need the Solid Eye.

The game has volumes of features and equipment built in to assist the player during the game, but the more experienced the player, the less they'll rely upon any of their gear.

At least the octocamo doesn't run out of power, which is more than can be said about the Nanosuit in Crysis. But in all fairness, the ridiculously low power of the suit was designed in the interest of balance to keep the game challenging.

Ah, thanks for the hesitant to spoil. ;) Beat the game...amazing ending! Now I need to play MGS1-3. I wonder why I waited til Ac!d and ops to get into Metal Gear...

They've recently re-issued MGS1-3 at a $30 price with new packaging/artwork. It was $25 on Amazon. I ordered it even though I have my original copies of MGS 1-3. It supposedly has MGS2 Substance and MGS3 Subsistence which is partly why I bought them again.

When you get to MGS3, I highly recommend the Subsistence version as it fixes the one major flaw of Snake Eater; the fixed camera angle. I never finished the game as much as I wanted to follow the story, simply because I found the fixed angle too constraining. I'll give it another shot with Subsistence once it's delivered since I still haven't seen all the story scenes, which to me are half of the reason to play MGS.

You might want to consider hunting down a copy of MGS Twin Snakes on the GC as opposed to playing the original PS1 version. Again, I'll play through for the story, but the visuals have really aged horrendously. Twin Snakes is the same story, but with revisions and GC level visuals.

Thanks for the advice.

Sorry for bringing back an old topic, but the fight between Raiden and Vamp cutscene is NOT pre-rendered. I can confirm this because I have FaceCamo on Snake. The part where snake snips the lines to free Raiden proves it. I was also able to use the SixAxis to revert the OctoCamo and the FaceCamo. So the fight between Raiden and Vamp is completely in-game. The artifacts might be a problem with the processing...

ok, so are we talking about the Vamp vs Raiden fight on top of Rex in the right half of the screen ? So you're saying you catched a glimpse of Snake wearing custom camo in the right half cutscene ? I thought the camera constantly stays on the two fighting, anyway i can't wait to get there again :)
