MGS 1 would make my top 20 list for sure. I'll attempt the impossible.

1. LttP
2. OOT
3. SotN
4. FFVI
5. RE4

That's my generic top 5.

My personal top 5 is this:

1. LttP
2. Final Fantasy VIII
3. RE4
4. SotN
5. Final Fantasy VII
Screw it
6. Final Fantasy Tactics

That's not to say that other games should belong on that list. I'd say SMG, SMW, SMB3, and SM64 could plausably be 4 of the top 5 games on anyones list and I wouldn't question it.

My top 50 is quite a spectacular list, but my top 5 is crap, like any top 5s are.

MGS4 shouldn't be anywhere near that list, though. MGS1, yes, MGS4, no. It's like putting Spiderman 2 or PoC3 on a favorite movie list.

Those movies are guilty pleasures, not ligitimate genre or gamechangers like the games/movies they were based upon.


Resident Evil 4, for instance, completely revamped the series and brought 3rd person shooters to a level they had never reached before.

Max Payne invented the most copied gameplay element of all time, which was Bullet-Time and no game since has used it with as much success, barring perhaps F.E.A.R.

Resident Evil 1 invented the survival horror genre, and there are still few games that can give you that sense of B horror movie scare and helplessness that the game provides. Do you remember the sharks in RE1, lol?

I mean, comeon guys, MGS4 is great, but jeezus! Looking at the top 5 games of all time, or even 10, there isn't any room for something that isn't genre-defining perfection, and despite MGS4's awesome story, it's still a derivitive game with a familiar formula. Best game of all time? It's as good as MGS3, and worse than MGS1. End of story, imo.

I do, Melee was a joke, they tried to turn a brawler into a hybrid fighter-brawler and it was pathetic (still a good game, just no what I hoped a sequel would bring) and I haven't played brawl yet.
