Forums - Sony - Last Remnant's delay: Unreal Engine to thank for?

So why didn't they use crystal tools again? If it was mentioned in this thread I didn't read it, because I don't feel like it right now.

I blame Epic for ruining my JRPG experiences this year .. ah well I still have FFX-2 and FFXII to play and Valkyrie Chronicles will release in fall.

Or you could buy a 360.:)

Alot of developers have a problem with the PS3 and the unreal engine. I wonder when the engine is going to be fully optimized for the ps3, if ever

EgM had a list recently of all the ps3 titles killed by UE3..... htere were alot including Coded Arms and some hack adn slash both were exlusive.

Hey maybe SE will throw in a few extras for the ps3 version if not Im heading to Japan with my first stop being SCEJ then Se......this wont be pretty and yes There Will Be blood..................................................................................................................................................is such a great movie.

We all know by now the Last Remnant will make its first entry on the 360 and not on the PS3 as well at the same time, which was the plan at first. The devs at Square Enix gave a statement with the reason of the delay.

Once again, another Unreal Engine-related delay strikes again. The Last Remnant is one of the timed exclusive RPGs from Square Enix on the Xbox 360, but that wasn't because Microsoft shelled out the big bucks. According to an interview with Gamespy, the delay was "mainly for development reasons." The Unreal Engine has been difficult to work with on PS3, and that's been the cause of the delay. "We're developing the game using the middleware Unreal Engine, and the Unreal Engine has a slower development on the PS3 side."

Thankfully, ever since Epic worked on the PS3 with Unreal Tournament III, things have been running more smoothly on Sony's platform. "It was only really workable after Unreal Tournament was published, so this was mainly a development decision."

Square Enix's other PS3 RPG games, Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII, utilize Square Enix's in-house Crystal Tools engine.

Typical Epic.  "Okay guys, we've released our game... now we'll update the tools we gave you to be usable."

A 360 doesn't cost 10 bucks and if he hasn't even played FFXII, I'm guessing he still has tons of ps2 JRPGs to pass the time

Stop bashing UE3. There are a lot of other engines with problems on PS3. Dunia (Far Cry 2) , id Tech 4 (Quake : ET) and Twilight 2 (Alone in the Dark 2008)

Whatever IW used for COD4 sure didn't seem to have problems anywhere. Maybe they should start outsourcing their engine since they seem to have the know-how that most developers don't? I think someone from IW even said at a time that programming for the PC,360 and PS3 was all the same!

IW is part of Activision, and they have a lot of really smart people there. You can't hold the entire industry up to their standard. *cough*ea*
