After all the talk of what overall score MGS4 would get, I think we can now see where exactly the game sits.  It has an average score of 94% based over 34 reviews.  Which means at the moment it is sitting proudly joint second with COD4 just behind GTAIV which happens to be on 98%.

I do not care much about metacritic, but still it's a good score.

Gamerankings has been about 92% for a few days now.

Together their reviews have resulted in an average ratio of 92.4%.  That ratio has resulted in this title becoming the 74th best game of all time and the 4th best game on the PlayStation 3. 

That's from gamerankings. Nobody recognizes n4g, for a reason.

A. They are notoriously Sony biased.

B. I'm not sure, but I bet they average every review.

C. At gamerankings, only the respected reviews are averaged into the final score.

The game is a 92.4 from the only site that I, or any levelheaded fanboy in their right mind, will accept as a talking point. It's a great score. Lets not start hating on gamerankings because the games we love the most aren't as high up in the rankings as we think they deserve to be.

Metacritic is also damage control in a way. Often fanboys will look at Metacritic and Gamerankings and use whichever score is higher to promote their games final score. I've done this myself.

The fact of the matter is, when it counts, and we're talking about GTAIV, OOT, or SMG, we're talking about gamerakings. This is the site that lets us see the quanitative top scores down to the decible. When people say "best game of all time" they are referring to gamerankings.com.

Now, I am completely against aggregate reviews, but I can't just let cherrypicking aggregate review sites pass. If your going to use them, then at least have a standard, and don't try to spin us by leaving information out, or pretending that if all of those reviews were on gamerankings it would have a better score, it might actually have a worse score, because of how gamerankings chooses and averages reviews.

If your going to tout MGS4 review scores, then acceptable talking points are:

A. 10/10 gamespot

B. 10/10 IGN

C. Together their reviews have resulted in an average ratio of 92.4%.  That ratio has resulted in this title becoming the 74th best game of all time and the 4th best game on the PlayStation 3.

that's bull crap

those reviews there at n4g.com are from other sites and it has nothing to do with them being biased or not,,,,metacritics is also 94% ,,,so if I want to take numbers I ahve much more options to choose from other than gamerankings(I personally only care for IGN),,,,but the truth is that I don't care about reviews that much unlike you ,,,remember the GTAIV reviews?who was the one that got upset and spammed the website with angry posts?who lost his control and got banned over GTAIV review marks?oh yea it's all comming back to me now.

93/94 is a decent current score. Granted, the inflation of reviews makes 94 a bit of a high number (but this discussion is from the GTA-era) - especially because I doubt the staying power of MGS4 but in general I will not complain.

What did u expect gamespot to give a 9? They MGS4 ads were all over the site. MGS4 literally bought gamespot's 10/10 review. We all remember the last time when gamespot actually reviewed a game they advertised properly cough*Kane and Lynch*cough.

That line is so what's wrong with game reviews, and how people perceive them.

Your rating has virtually nothing to do with "best game of all time". Saying one determines the other is so much bullshit, I don't know where to begin.
