Forums - Nintendo - Boom Blox sales met its expectations EA CEO says, analysts say so otherwise

After I read all of the posts here on this thread I think EA was raking money right now even it only sell 60,000 in the month of May. A full retail game, 50 dollars, no marketing no tv ads, minimal advertising and it still sells. WOW...

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out

So the game's already made a profit, the company's already happy with its sales, it's getting great reviews, and the sales are basically the same every week, and analysts and Joystiq are still bitching and moaning?

This game's fun as hell, especially with the level editor.

Where exactly did you get that the game already made a profit ?

EA CEO might have said it met expectations, he sure didn't say it made a profit....

If you've played the game, you'd know that it must've cost about $100 to make.  I mean, this is EA after all.

Fixed.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

while the game is good, the concept is awesome and i heard it was a small team so it probably was ~2 million to make- 4 tops.

4 million to make , the game most likely needs to sell AROUND 200 thousand copies to break even... it'll make that easy and most likely -provided it has legs like alot of us think it will- get atleast 600k if not a million ,...eventually

Are you trying to suggest that a publisher expects their games to flop financially?

I don't trust or respond to articles that have spelling mistakes in them.

The low sales are caused by three things in my opinion:

Poor packaging/naming/advertising - This is a game that needs to be in mall demo booths like WiiFit was. Get people to actually play it and they'll love it. As it is there's no way to know what this game really is from the name or what's on the box.

Casual Appeal - Games that are casual in nature generally don't have large sales out of the gate, especially not new IPs. Still sales are soft because...

Intense competition - They launched the game between Mario Kart Wii and WiiFit along with Okami, PES and other good stuff. People only have so much money to spend and wouldn't want to risk it on an unknown like Boom Blox.

Too bad, it's an awesome game and I hope it continues to sell via word of mouth until it breaks 2 million.

Boom Blox will sell till the end of this generation.

Wii sales are just different.

Analysts forget that!

Currently Playing:

Wii: Mario Kart Wii, Wii Sports Resort

Xbox360: Fifa 2009, Halflife 2 Episode 2
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Want to play:
Wii: Lego Indiana Jones, SMG2
Xbox360: MW2

I think third parties now knows how to sell games same as what Ninty did, make the game not frontloaded and let it sell for itself. Dont overadvertised it and dont make it a blockbuster. And with Wii's userbase and viral marketing and word of mouth the game will sell as the company expected.

I didn't say that but it looks more to me that they are expecting to make profit on the continued sales ( it's not like the game is no longer selling anymore). Nowhere did he mention that development and marketing costs have been recouped so far...

The game sold 210k units so far, it's not hard to see it will at least sell 500k and EA see that too...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !
