Yeah, it would make sense for the next Microsoft system to be out first since the last one had a year long headstart. This is essentially a case of trying to make a huge deal out of absolutely nothing whatsoever.

What? Our granola-munching hippy tree-planter mod is back? When did this happen?

That's the stupidest controller I have ever seen. And I remember when the "Rev-mote" was first shown.

It is a joke.

On topic: 5-6 years is plenty but I think it is a mistake.  Graphics are good enough for consoles, they need to focus on recouping all their previous losses.  Continue making great games for 360, release a new style with MUCH bigger hard drive and Wireless N with a 10/100/1000 port.  Speed up Live.  If they do a fully new console, it will fail.

Why stop now?

360 sells 120k plus a week... if they drop the price to 250 for the theoretical package above and throw-in some 360 classics (GoW, Halo3, whatever 3 year old game they want to pack in) in 2010 that will be 30 million in sales a week. Plus controller number 2 = 6 million.  Games 1 million a week * 8 (figure they make $8 off of lisencing, a number I pulled out of my ass) = ~8 million

44 million every week in revenue * 56 (52 weeks in a year, modest double 4 weeks for holidays) =
2.5 Billion a year revenue, low estimate.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

If they release in 2011 and no more huge blunders happen, the 360 will be seeing its fourth year of profit out of six.

That's plenty of time and in 3 1/2 years, those graphics are going to look awfully stale compared to PC hardware. It will be time for a hardware refresh with Blu-ray, uncompressed sound, 1080p, etc etc etc.

The fact the article makes a point out of the bull-crap 10 year claim which is a strong marketing point of sony pr should set the alarms off. Any writer worth its salt knows the lifespan in the market is determined by economics and market conditions. Sony will drop the ps3 when it makes sense economically and according to the evolution of the market.

2011 isn't soon. That would be a 5-6 year life cycle for 360, which is just fine. 2009 is too soon. 2010 is kinda early. 2011 is actually just fine, but I would prefer if this gen drags on unitl 2012 for 720, with 2013 for Wii2 and Ps4.

What a dipshit. If MS releases a new Xbox in 2011, the 360 would have enjoyed front billing for six years... The same lifespan as the PS2.

Stupid people piss me off.

Yeah this thread is joke. What is going on with all these substandard threads being posted as of late.

I just don't understand why everyone is getting on end about these things, it's all speculatory anyways. If it happens, what you can do, as a consumer, is just NOT buy it! That simple. I personally have never bought a next-gen system right when it came out, especially the xbox. Look at Microsoft's last two OS's, neither worked well until they got the service packs out, apply that to your console gaming, you won't be disappointed, trust me.

Don't troll and don't target other members who haven't even posted in the thread.  This is your warning.

I agree 2011 is a good target. Were gona have to see some better harware advances in the pc realm before I'm ready to upgrade my console. The gaps not big enough yet.

I hope they scale the current architecture. Keep it in order operations power pc, Bump the clock speed a bit, add gobs more ram at least 2 gigs, add a few cores on a smaller process, add a second PPC processor, Upgrade the ATI chip same architecture smaller process and go with something simular to single slot crossfire(2 gpus).Standard internal hard drive with an additional user upgradable hard drive would be nice. They could make a propriatary interface housing to keep their periphrial money train rolling. One SKU only please. That would make backwards compatability a breeze this time around.
