Is the DVD drive on 360s always this loud? Or are they usually pretty quiet?

The 360's DVD drive (especially in older models) is notorious for being really loud. I heard it helps if you have the console laying down, though.

The newer ones are okay, the older ones sound like the first CD ROM drives for the PC unfortunately.

mine makes all sorts of wierd sounds, on top of being loud.

i find it a lot less noticeable when i am playing a game though

My brother has a 360 and when he plays it at night my sister who is directly below his room cant sleep when hes playing it xD, it a really loud vibrating noise lol, haha my bro cant play his 360 at night for this reason ( im grand with my PS3 tho)

I just bought mine, I didn't want it to fart out on me quite yet.

I have mine lying down and I don't notice the drive making any noise. That could be because the fan is so damn loud though.

The DVD drive inside the 360 spins at crazy speed, 12x or something like that - hence the noise.
