Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why can't MGS, FF, GT sell as much on PS3 as they did on PS2??

@mtstickball

well that still isn't the meaning of niche....as far as I know niche means a very small group of people

Selling 3 million + in the games industry isn't a small group of people...

thats all I was trying to point out

Actually, yes it is. I swear that people on the Intraweb are mostly ESL (no offense, Darth).

Niche:

2.a place or position suitable or appropriate for a person or thing: to find one's niche in the business world.
3.a distinct segment of a market.

Niche has absolutely nothing to do with size.

Well I thought otherwise, surprisingly many people I know feel niche has the same meaning.

Ok so name a game that isn't niche then.........

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Tetris. Pokemon. Wii Sports. Gran Turismo. GTA: San Andreas.

Are you seriously going to argue with Webster over this?

*sighs*

In other words, niche=casual.

Well, it's usually used to reference small portions of the market so that's not really surprising.

That isn't the limitation of the word's usage, though.
