Forums - Sales Discussion - Killzone sales

what an ugly discussion "the devs are liars and incompetent , therefore I see no hard proof KZ was a million-seller" ...

so do we have to make a thread like this for every game that didn't break the million-mark in japan+usa ?

so KZ released in November and went Platinum in Europe 6 month after that and Greatest Hits in US roughly 9-10 month after release .. someone here mentioned ,that 600k sales are needed for platinum (anyone knows how much is needed for "Greatest Hits"?)combined with the data tracked through npd and media create it should be well over 1 million

all data points towards better sales in europe ,than in US (well that's not unusual for an european game)

For high end development for last gen it was 250,000 for greatest hits title.

The thing about it, is even if you accept that they sold 2 million at full price (which I don't think is even close to reality), that number doesn't even put it in the top 100 of PS2 games.

Well, now you're just reaching for anything. How the hell is 2 mill copies sold a "meh"? Do you realise that only 2 or so  (apart from halo 1&2) games on the original xbox actually sold more than 2 million copies? The PS2 did have a tonne of incredible games that sold in the millions but to act like 2 million copies sold (or even 900,000) is nothing special is just stupidity IMO.

... and what's this "at full price" crap? It sold! weather at $40 or $20 it sold. When games sell a certain amount, or after a certain period of time, they get a price drop. What games do you know sell at initial retail price for over a year and still sell well? Gosh this site's forums are full of some really strange concepts.

Why is anyone debating this?  Who cares?  If the new one is great I will be interested in getting it (once the PS3 drops to $400 that is).  If the game is poorly reviewed I will not.  It really is that simple.  Do people really buy games just because they bought an earlier version, even if is poorly done?   Remember when it used to be all about the games?

Glad to have you on the forums Zyzomys. We need more here like you. Excellent post.

Where is ioi to put this topic to rest. I don't think it past a million in America alone, but possibly broke 2 mill WW. But everyones right who cares, those are great numbers. I do think people care though because of the attention this game is given on this site. I think I've seen more stuff on Killzone 2 then Halo 3. So people are intent to knock it down a bit, to where they feel it should be.

Two reasons though I think Killzone 2 will be a hard sell:

  1. much smaller userbase
  2. first one was a let down.

Yet there is no saying it won't hit a million.

==> depend of the PS3 sales and the other PS3 game
but you re right about this point

first one was a let down.

==> that is ur bad point, first one was released and forgotten
I don't know waht will do this one
but for the moment, if u just care about PS3 gamers, there are a lot of people thare planning to buying it ...

Yet there is no saying it won't hit a million. "

==> considering Resistance Fall of Men reach 2M sales, Is possible that this one reach the 1 M
all will depend of E3 first ""in game"" video

Time to Work !

Today Killzone 2 sold 2.2 million units. But the First Killzone i realy don't know... vgcharts says that the game sold 750k, but apear that vgchartz maybe still wrong
