It's destined to be a mere shadow of what its predecessor was while the 360 will actually increase the market penetration for MS.

Finally, no one gives a crap about the ps3 potential (except sony pr and its crazzy fans) because dev houses can't risk not releasing on the 360 since it's the biggest market. You like the rest of ps3 users paid a premium tax to be sacrificed at the altar of sony's blue ray format that will largely be ignored by the majority of developers. I see those premium dollars that bought you inferior ports for the rest of the generation don't  bother you too much - such is your mad fanaticism towards sony.

But beside's shooters, the Xbox 360 has an undeniable domination over JRPG's and WRPG's.  This will continue against the PS3, though the Wii may end up with more.

What people often underestimate, is the Xbox 360's price advantage.  A $250 pro vs a $320 PS3 (perhaps lower, but only if Sony truly doesn't care about making some money this generation) would be very dangerous to Sony.

In all likelihood, 1st or 2nd quarter of the 09/10 financial year.  By that time, 95% of games that will be made for the HD consoles this generation will already have started development, and will be multiplatform.  Also, whilst the Xbox 360 will hold or fall next year sales wise, next year will be the PS3's last year of rising sales.  It will not last nearly as long as the PS2, due to a lack of price advantage and exclusive software support.

I can see that harming sony, microsoft does have an advantage there, if they cut the price in NA it can really hurt sony.
