Forums - Gaming - Could I make a game in my house right now?

If I was learned in the way of videogame making or whatever, and I bought a dev kit from Nintendo for $2,000 ( I don't know how much it costs, what about WiiWare), could I make a game right now? I heard about some Rhino program on the Internet somewhere while was looking up the actual animal (don't ask) and some Garage Games thing which is for developing games.

So, can anybody here just make a game by themselves, or with like 5 other friends or something, if you had some money ($2,000/ 1,304 Euros)?

Supposedly half of the 100+ WiiWare games in development right now are with teams smaller than 20 people. So Nintendo's trying to make devkits affordable for small companies, and allow games of such small sizes that very small teams are possible again.

Here is a free PC game that one man made alone that I really really love.

It's free and amazing and beautiful and might give you flashbacks.

So it's definitely possible.

Of course you can but I wouldn't suggest making it for the wii. You'd be better served making it for the pc as A you don't need to pay for the development kit and B you can use one of many digital distribution services that would be far more likely to distribute your game.

Also I would be careful about what type of game you want to make as if its too graphically ambitious it could literally take years. Take a look at these guys, for an example of innovative garage games http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Introversion_Software.

For the record I don't make games, I work in the film industry and I make projects that cost very little, it can be done, modern technology is a marvel :)

Well I was just leading you to an overview of that company. Basiacally they're a critically acclaimed company that only has like 5 developers. It wasn't really put there for any practical purpose, more just as proof that it can be done.

Here's a pic of one of their games.

Its great because it looks great but it would have cost literally nothing to make.

Try putting something together with Flash first and send that to Nintendo. If you try Flash and find it too difficult, then you should stop right there and not bother wasting money on a development kit.

Here you can find a bit of help: http://www.flash-game-design.com/

PSN name: Gazz1979 (feel free to add me, but please put your Vgchartz name in the message!)

Battlefield 2: Gazz1979

There is alot steps to get the skills before you can make games on consoles, flash games on pc, then maybe try making homebrew games for the ds.
