Forums - Sony - Church of England considers legal action against Sony

they got a right to sue since they don't want to be associated with violence in their place of worship. This should of been common sense to sony.

Yes i know its just a church but it means alot to people.

Like how would you like it if someone made a game based on your house and for example had a dungeon in the basment holding little children or something bizzar. (ie like michael jacksons house) and the thing looked so relistic that people in your street actually you worked out that it's your house, they might actually think your a child molestor.

Granted most common people know it's fictional. However you got those retarded people that take games too seriously. (ie that WOW guy in asia who lent somone one of his swords a rare one and that guy sold it on ebay, next day the other guy wen tto his hosue and killed him).

So to conclude i think they are worried that their is a pyscho in their religious community that might want to go on a killing rampage in the church.

While i agree with you mostly, i'm curious. Where in all of Christianity does it state that you can't play a game like that? Or was it the Church of England that implies such. Because if it is the Church of England than i really don't care.

Just some nut job got his bible panties in a twist, good to see the haters defending them.

Several years ago Bill Clinton sued the producers of the movie Contact because they used a portion of a presidential address to the nation in the moive; based on fair use he had no leagal leg to stand on yet he still sued. The reason the lawsuit was filed (knowing he was going to lose) was to make the statement that he was not involved in producing the movie because he didn't want people to watch the movie and think "shouldn't he be running our country rather than play himself in a moive?".

The reason this lawsuit has been filed is because the church does not approve of the content of the movie. Regardless of whether you agree with their stance it doesn't make sense to say narrowminded things about the church. Imagine if a movie producer created a movie titled "Picking up 12 year old boys for fun and profit" and had an interview with you in the movie which your words were taken out of context and then played heavily in its trailers; would you sue the producers of that movie?

LOL, Excellent!!!

I personally feel that the people creating the game should have gotten explicit permission to use that building if they wanted to. A church is not a public building, it is someones property (I guess of the congregation?). How would you like it if someone made a replica of your house and used it as a scene for a grisly murder game if you were against violence?

In this case, I don't think copywrite has anything to do with it. The church is saying they did not give permission to use their church in the game. Just because their doors are open and everyone is welcome to come inside doesn't mean you can move in and do whatever you like inside.

By the sound of the article the church doesn't appear to be asking for any money from the game they just don't want their church which is in an area with what they consider a gun problem associated with gun fighting fictional or not. I mean don't know where the realigious part even comes into play in this its like someone said you don't want your house depicted negativly in a game expecially if you have some public image to uphold. As to what to do about it I'd say the demand to remove it from shelves probably won't hold up they could probably get an apology and a name change put on the church in any further production of the game as that wouldn't really be much of a programming change.
