I don't think that it is, tbh.  Though it is being anticipated far more than Resistance 1 was.  R2 seems to be doing very impressive things with online multiplayer and co-op.  It will be a much more impressive game than the first (after all, the first was only Insomniac's first entry into the shooter realm), while Gears 2 seems to just be a bigger and better Gears.

Speaking of R2, don't forget that the gameplay reveal is happening tonight on Gametrailers! :D

*Looks back at news for the week...*

Star Ocean 4 announced for 360, Square Enix states they currently have "no plans" to bring it to the PS3.

The Last Remnant is announced as a 360 timed exclusive that will see a global release at the end of this year.

Sony announced that Eight Days and The Getaway are cancelled.

EA announced work on Red Alert 3 for the PS3 has been put on "hold", which pretty much means it's cancelled.

After a week like that the PS3 fanboys are entitled to a thread to reassure themselves that everything is A-OK but lets not get too delusional with statements like Resistance 2 is more anticipated than Gears 2.

What have ps3 fans gotten this week?  In-game XMB was confirmed for next week, the first Resistance 2 gameplay footage is being unveiled as I type this on Spike (soon to be up on GameTrailers), and, the mother of them all, MGS4 was released!

What the ? Since when has R2 ever been more anticipated than Gears 2. That is wishful thinking. Whenever I hear someone talk about Resistance 2 like it's the second coming of christ, I usually firstly think 'fanboy' and second look at R1 and realise they must be fanboy. Gears 2 is way more anticipated than R2. Certainly in the media.

There is no facts behind this statement, in fact theres facts to the contrary. PS3 games development has been shutting down of late, and they are forced to wait 6 - 12 months to get JRPG's. Thats right, their home grown games just this week were announced as timed or fully exclusive to 360.

You do know that JRPGs dont sell too good on the 360 right? The JRPGs that were announced as timed or fully exclusive will not make a difference on hardware sales, all it would do is stop the PS3 from outselling the 360 as much as it would if the PS3 had those JRPGs. Japan doesn't like the 360, and those JRPGs were announced to target the Japanese market, Fact. You really think that with Gears Of War 2, as hugely anticipated like u said earlier, people will stop to play The Last Remnant this winter? I know that u can argue that they r different genres so they are targeting different ppl, true, but based off of the 360's library of games and based on what sells and what doesnt, you really think that new 360 owners would be buying it for their "rpg games" when theres Gears 1,2 Halo 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Orange Box and other GREAT games out there? I dont think so. So like I said, JRPGs going to the 360 will not make a difference on hardware sales (although those games are gonna be great)

Actually, Lost Odyssey has surpassed 700,000 copies sold to consumers and is growing quickly.  Blue Dragon has sold half a million.  The former is definitely profitable, the later must be close.

Do you have any evidence that the PS3 sells JRPG's?

So far the only games closely definable to the genre on that system are Disgaea 3, which has sold 110,000 thousand and Valkyrie Chronicles, which has sold only 130,000.  Granted, these titles are yet to be released in the West, but its doubtful they will meet with success.

I dont get your Gears/Mass Effect/Bioshock argument?  Are you saying the 360's line-up is so strong people wont have time to play JRPG's?  And that this is different for PS3 owners, who with little else to play WILL have time for JRPG's?

Also, in Q3/Q4 2008, Ps3 will still be behind. But in less than 2 years, PS3 take the second place EASLY.

In a way, it is "yearsSSSS", in a way it is less than 2 years ...

Baiscally, you are right. But this is just MS money power in action securing (timed ?) exclusive games.

what will be important is how industry will look at these games (rating/review)

AND

the fact industry is not bashing anymore the PS3 for the cancellation problem (red alert2) or the lack of exclusivity (star ocean 4)
