The Xbox360 is installed and possess a complete 2007/2008 line-up with some great titles. It is quite affordable and is second in the console war by a significative margin.

At the opposite, the PS3 is third, is quite expensive, the multiplateform titles are cancelled (red alert3) or delayed (alone in the dark4). In a way there is nothing that could save it.

But ...

 ... ... it is not anymore bashed by the media !!!

 Just look at the 3 last examples :

 - GTA4 : despite the lack of futur episodic content on the PS3,  no version was really pushed by the different online websites as if the 2 versions were really egual.

- Resistance2 vs Gear of War2 : the 2 first games get quite different score and hype. One is considered as a masterpiece in term of gameplay (copied in many games) and another one is considered as an average/good game, interesting but not so amazing. One killed the PS3 release in 2006 while the other was barely able to save her. The sequels will soon be released. And you know what ?

R2 > Gear2

Resistance2 is more anticipated than Gear of War2 since it is expected to bring more news ideas !

- MGS4 : despite MGS4 being a very hardcore game and having a complicated story, people are putting 9/10 or even 10/10 to the game. Even Gamespot gave a 10/10 !
I was expecting MGS4 to be more bashed, not to be praised by everybody !
It is a bit like Halo3/Bioshock  : media are putting perfect score to MGS4 despite having some flaws and being quite special (complex story, sometimes weird, complex control)

 But you know what ?

MGS4 is PS3 exclusive for the moment while Halo3/Bioshock were Xbox360 exclusive !!!!

The wind has turned and I believe MS will not be able to fight back.
Everybody is now pushing the PS3 and Sony over MS and their Xbox360.

BUT WHY ????

==> becuase the industry follow the sales and is able to see how Sony is fighting back since 6 months : better sales (THX BEST MOVE EVER 40gb with NO BC) and better line-up compared to 2007.

Advice to MS : next time kill the beast in the egg ...

Some Words of Wisdom to folks that like to say that MS is not here to make but just to counter Sony :
you have to understand this is precisely because MS didn't drop the price sooner AND because GTA4 full exclusivity was not secured by them that the PS3 was able to "go out of the wood". MS truly want to earn money and that is why there were not so agressive in term of price drop and offer during the first years : more money for them but a PS3 still alive.

Bah, Sony is a bigger company than Microsoft. Not quite as profitable but considerably bigger. If they had been in the danger of being killed by MS they could have followed any step. Definitely a price cut (besides in Europe the 360 already costs almost half the PS3 and it doesn't help). And for GTA4: There are almost 4 million sold copies on PS3 and there will be quite a few more. Compensating Rockstar for it (and for the hatred of Sony for their future games) would have been enormously expensive. And again Sony could follow any step in this direction. It is in the interest of both companies to get profitable but should one try to obliterate the other with a price cut or whatever they would follow up.

MS is a much more profitable company. Sony's revenue is 1.5times bigger than MS. 66b$ vs. 44b$ 2006. But due to its monpoly status Microsoft makes much more profit. But the thing is that doesn't help them. Both are public companies and loosing billions just to crush the competition in one relatively small company segment is nothing you want to tell to shareholders. Sony made almost 4 billion dollar profit last year. Thats enough to follow ANY Microsoft attempt to crush their gaming division. (Its enough money to give away 10 million PS3 for free)



I could imagine one reason they do not do that is because both Microsoft and Sony wouldn't allow each other to take over R*. IF Sony tries to buy R*, Microsoft would raise the offer until they either get the company or Sony would need to pay much more than its worth. And vice versa.



You are correct that MS has much more liquid money than SONY. But public companies are so successful because they do not throw billions out of the window just because they want to crush the competition. Sony makes enough money with their main business (TVs, cameras etc.) to counter any responsible attack by Microsoft. If MS would throw more than 4 billions out of the window they would truly be crazy.

For one thing Sony is WAY better at design. It shows in the quality of the PS3 compared to the 360. There's almost 0 fail rate on the PS3, one lab even put it in extreme hot and cold conditions for a week and it held up just fine, imagine trying that with the 360. It's more reliable, has better tech, has built in wi fi (99 dollar add on for 360), it plays blu ray disks, it can use higher quality video on exclusives because it has blu ray (the multi platforms don't take as much advantage of the PS3).

MGS4 is amazing btw, don't hate on it unless you've tried it. Its pure win. Sony is going to pass up MS and never look back just like last gen because all the Xbox buyers are the same poor hardcore nerd crowd (if they had money they'd just use a gaming PC for better versions of all the 360 games).

Sony also works as a quality Divx streamer, has a bigger HD, has more and better exclusives coming with a much larger variety of game types. Its just flat out better in every way.

Why in the world would anyone buy a 360 when the PS3 is already out? Boggles the mind.

 Microsoft wouldn't know cool or quality if it smacked them upside the head.  If you want proof buy a windows mobile phone and try it, or a zune for that matter, or vista, its all crap.  The worst MS creation is below though (I promise its not a rick roll, just watch and be amazed.)

Did I miss something here?  When was Halo 3 announced for PS3 or Wii?

 

As for the whole point of this thread, you're basing your facts on the lack of recent PS3 bashing in the media?  Then you support it with some personal opinions regarding quality and impact of games not yet released.

 

PS3 outsold X360 by a whopping 11k units worldwide last week.  That's hardly HD console industry shifting figures.  It's more like the ship is no longer sinking.  

 

A silver lining doesn't paint the whole cloud white.
