Canadians Love The Nintendo Wii

Number Sold Put At Over 800 Thousand Consoles So Far

Ottawa- Not only is the Nintendo Wii Gaming console the leading gaming system worldwide with sales records being set around the globe but market research firm NPD group puts the number of units sold in Canada at over 813,000 so far.

Game developers and game publishers are rushing to try and take advantage of the new gaming console with its new innovative Wii Remote and newly redesigned Nunchuk style controllers.

The most common game style right now around the world is the sports games, with users of all ages able to take part.

Nintendo’s own game title, Wii Sports has had wide exposure to the media and is the title that is helping to establish the game genre and new Wii gaming console, both world wide and inside Canada.

There are a host of activities that the remote controllers allow a set of players to compete against each other in. You can hit a ball, bowl down a lane, or run on a course.

Each of the different games in the sports genre has a wide appeal, and it is attracting attention from new adherents that typically do not play video games. But due to the remote controllers, it is a possibility for more members of the family and friends to become involved.

So that is like 8% of what it have sold in USA?

Wait aren't the wii numbers a bit overtracked then?  I thought I saw someone posting that the Wii sold around 10.200.000 in the USA and with Canadese numbers it makes a total of 11 million while VGchartz haves it around 12 million..

There are only 6 people in Canada, so those are great sales numbers.

I think those numbers are 2 months old. I remember Nintendo mentioning them in their press release for NPD's release for March.
