If you take a train in Tokyo in the morning, you'll probably see a few people playing with DS every day. You'll perhaps see two with PSP a week.

DS is still selling at a phenomenal pace in Japan. Most of the major retail stores in Tokyo are still out of stock. It is as if the whole nation is trying to buy it.

Michael Jackson recently visited Japan and he went to one of the biggest electronic stores in Tokyo to buy DS, only to find out that even he couldn't get one. It was a bit funny when I heard it.

That's pretty stupid ;) I wouldn't sell him one (in Japan) anyway!

(lots of unpleasant things to say about MJ, and will try to refrain...)

Well shams refrain, but download the MJ soundboard or listen to this prank using the soundboard of MJ funny stuff, they recorded MJ voice and pranked people with it!!

LOL the headline is wrong... Nintendo has over 80% of the hardware market in Japan. Add up your numbers ;)

Essentially the headline is still correct. More than 80% is still more than 75%.

What I dont get is the DS??? I mean seriously are people over thre/here buying them just to say , i have 2??

US DS sales weekly are these days somewhat higher then in Japan, so is the WII. Difference is, the 360 sells like crap in Japan and the PS2 sales are much higher in the US. And for the record.... I've got 2 :P A regular red one as Japanese dictionary, there's great DS software for that in Japan. Got that on your DS say goodbye to you paper dictionaries. And a pink DS lite for gaming of course.

Wow, Playstation Portable isn't doing too bad. Playstation 2 is in 4th place. Now if that isn't sad, then I don't know what is. How could a console, launched in the year 2000, outsell the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and the other platformers on the chart? Wow... Just wow...

It really is pretty amazing when you think about it. It's really quickly coming up on the sunset side of being a decade old, and it still outsells the 360 and it's own successor! And it sells even BETTER in the U.S., although of course the 360 outsells it here.

The strength of the console's library is what drives this I think. Even argent Nintendo men like myself have to admit that the PS2 software library might be the most epic collection of game software in industry history. It is one of a handful of consoles where if you say you don't own it, you are missing out on a lot of great game experiences.

I really do wonder when PS2 sales will finally stop. Certainly the software is still being released...

Keep in mind the US has like 2.5 times the people Japan does. Per capita no market comes close to Japan for both DS and Wii sales. What the DS is doing in Japan would be the equivelent of it doing like 1.5 million a month in the US.
