Forums - Nintendo - I am now the proud owner of a wiifit.

Just got back from best buy, with my wiifit in tow. I'm really quite surprised that I got one, I didn't really intend on buying one for a while (maybe if some cool balance board games came out) if at all. I figured maybe if my wife wanted one, and we had some extra cash one week maybe on an impulse buy. But much to my surprise my wife didn't just want want, she practically demanded one. One of her co-workers came into work with her daughter  and her brand new wiifit they had just purchased from best buy, and my wife seeing the box and talking to the daughter (age 12 or 13, somewhere in there) she decided she must have one, and asked me about buying one. So long story short, best buy said they were getting a shipment on sunday, I came waited in line (there was a huge line before the store even opened) and now I have a new wiifit box unopened next to me. I plan on busting it out in a minute and giving it a shot before my wife gets home. Now that I have it, I am kind of excited to play it.  I'll tell you guys my opinions and thoughts on it later.

You've gotta give Nintendo credit for getting the ladies into gaming. They know who really wears the pants in the household.

well "demanded" may be a bit of a strong word. My wife really isn't really demanding. More of "puppy dog eyes" until I got her one.

Now that I just spent a half hour of training time on it, damn am I tired. That little board just kicked my ass. I mean, I'm in decent shape, I never claimed to be an athlete but my BMI was 22.something or another, smack dab in the middle of the "normal" range, and I lead a fairly active life. My job keeps me on my feet and moving most of the day.

But damn, that thing wore me out. The aerobics didn't ware me out too much. The step class was cake, but the hoola hooping did get my heart rate going. The strength training hit pretty hard in some of the excercises. The pushups/sideplanks weren't too hard with the reps it was set to for my "beginner" class, but the lunges, dear god, the lunges nearly killed my legs. The yoga is what really surpised me though, I had no idea I was so stiff and unflexable until I tried to do some simple poses. From the word go I was hurting (not in a bad way really) because I just can't bend. I mean the half moon, the first pose, I was like "crap, I can barely bend sideways at all!" I rounded it off with a few games that were fairly entertaining and surprisingly difficult. I misses alot veering all over the place doing the ski slalom, and the tilting ball game requires quite a bit of subtlety of movement, which I never realized I sucked so bad at.

All and all, I'm impressed with the work out I got. It suggested that my goal should be to maintain my BMI, but I set it to lose three or four pounds. I've gotten a bit of a tummy since I got married, and I'd like to go back to having a flat stomach. I plan on keeping at it daily, and maybe even try to snack on less junk. It really works on a psychological level of just getting you to want to be fit. I really think my wife will like it.

Technically, that's demanding with a "I'll let you think you're doing me a favour"-twist to it ;)

Same thing happened to me with my wife. And yes, ladies are the ones with the pants in households.

=p

Same here lol

On the other hand, helping your wife stay trim and fit has its own rewards. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

@ grampy: you could just do that with MORE workouts in the bedroom. You don't need wiifit for that >_>

I couldn't say, I'm just a CASUAL lover. I only make love 2.2 times a day for 53 minutes each time 20 days out of the month. If you don't consider that casual, just ask Ubisoft.
