Forums - Gaming - Manhunt 2...a test?

It could be, remeber GTA can be done of the wii, it was done on the PS2 so I guess it is testing the waters seeing how much it could sell

Yes, but it's a violent shooter and the same general market type. Markets aren't divided by rating

Red Steal was about as violent as clipping your toenails.

... the deaths in it were MUCH more realistic then cartoony GTA deaths.  Where heads just disappear and people die with no wounds but pools of blood... haha

I never said GTA was very graphic with deaths either...

Hehe touche.  Still, it's pretty much the standard shooter, and shows a willingness of Wii gamers to accept a casual violent game like GTA.  Hell, it wasn't even a GOOD game and sold more than 1 million copies.

That has to do with the Sword fighting. It is the only place you can experience it, and people are tempted to try it out. A lightsaber game would sell through the roof.

I wouldn't really call this a "test", more so "logical".

For whatever reason, they have decided to release this for "last-gen" tech (i.e. PS2) rather than new consoles. Once this decision was made, a Wii version is pretty much a no-brainer.

Developing a Wii skew while developing a PS2 skew is (relatively) simple. Additionally, the Wiimote controls are sort of ideal for this game - and make it much more immersive.

So R* gets more sales (for less cost), gets a very high profile title on a new console, and dips their toe into the Nintendo fanbase. Its all positive.

...

Don't also forget, that Nintendo were TALKING to R*/TakeTwo about releasing more titles on their console. This game might have been an agreement between the two - and if it does well, we may see a flood of GTA/other titles to the Wii.

(love to see the early GTA games re-released for the Wii, as well as TableTennis and more...).

I think they are releasing Manhunt2 on the Wii first simply because Rockstar feels that if there is any console on the market that fits the gameplay mechanics of Manhunt2 to a T, it would be the Wii.

I cannot imagine how thrusting the Sixaxis around would feel more immersive than the Wii remote/Nunchuk combination, and nevermind the 360's controller.

I'm thinking Godfather: Blackhand Edition all gored up, and it would control absolutely great. Come to think of it, Splinter Cell's gameplay mechanics would also suit the Wii very well.

Gameplay-wise, I don't compare Manhunt2 to GTA at all - I couldn't stomach the first Manhunt on regular controls - I don't think the additional immersiveness of the Wii's controllers will do anything to change that!

Did you play the 1st Manhunt? I don't think you should actually group these together. I don't remember sneaking up behind someone, getting them to their knees with a machete chop into his lungs, then proceding to "whack" off his head with a seemingly dull blade(took three chops) all while the guy is still wheezing and blood is being sprayed onto a snuff film style camera angle, then tucking the severed head into my belt to later be hurled at the enemy in order to terrify them in any FPS I've ever played, starting with Wolf3d.exe on up to F.E.A.R. Did I miss it? Yes, I'm sure some of the market is cross-over, but many players of a game like Red Steel would likely turned off by the beautifully gratuitous gore of Manhunt. I'll at least rent the PS2 version

companies don't release games on consoles as a "test" they carefully analyze what will be profitable and then choose which console to release said game on. R* is releasing manhunt 2 on the wii because they knew it would be controversial, not because they want to test what works...

I think the fact that it was one of the few adult games and that it was marketed well and had wiimote sword controls all helped with that.

   Really lucky I think lol
