Forums - Sony - what media formats can the ps3 play?

can anyone tell me or point me to a list that tells me what the ps3 can play? kinda confused right now, some websites i went to say it can't play avi and only does mpeg-4 whiles others say it is possible to play avi, wmv and divx.

Yes it is. DivX and WMV was added by a firmware update.

Or to be more precise: AVI is a container format but the PS3 can play H-264 and divx therefore it can play most AVIs out there.

It played 95% of my pretty diverse media library, coupled with the streaming and external USB harddisc support it is a pretty awesome media center.

I heard that if you find a big enough hammer and a crowbar, it will play Laserdiscs.

The only things I'm pretty sure the PS3 won't play is .mkv, .ogg, .flac, and more obscure formats such as those.

There's a difference between trolling and jackassery.
