I'm going to do an over view of what I think are the 4 major standing points on this console war perception.
Fanatics, fanatical and fanboys - good or bad?
Stage 1: Clean Slate
1. Mid 2007 - This person believes "Wii is not next gen, it's last gen" before this: I had never heard that argument before, this person uses many a-typical arguments that are unsound and cherry picks information given to him in real time. An example of another more recent argument is "The wii is going to fail when Wiifit fails."
2. Later 2007 - Another friend is more of a medium as in he is a gamer by want, he lives to game or at least he used to, he recently has turned a cold shoulder to his xbox, even buying GTAIV in launch week and giving it 15 minutes of play time to date. He loves his flight sims on his Xbox360 though, but even that has lost his interest. When talking about games he is completely detached of fanboyism.
3. Mid 2007 - I met another person who is a graphical whore, in times past I've met a few of them, but this person is also technical savvy and requires crystal clarity and deep imagery to deem a game acceptable, but their is more to this person, he doesn't game to live meaning he's not a core gamer, in fact he rarely buys video games and I'd hardly call his playing sessions avid.
4. Early 2007 - With the coming of Brawl, and Mario Kart this person just wouldn't shut up about the Wii, he never shut up at all, but at the same time he only talked about the Wii, in his case it was almost as if the Ps3 and Xbox360 didn't exist if you left him alone, to talk to this person you'd end up hearing "man I just can't wait for (x)" and it keeps going on and on.
Stage 2: Interception of thought
All four of these people would fit into the stereotype of a core gamer, as each share characteristics of a core gamer. Such as keeping to date with games release dates, paying attention to developers (not interviews) on their games and checking out review sites.
1. Later 2007 - After various meetings with person (4) this person now loathes the Wii to an amazing extent, but due to a mutual understanding they agree on another end which sustains the relationship, this person openly calls himself a franchise whore and loves his PS3 and specific games on it, he also loves his PSP and bought a DS for some ungodly reason but relegates it to collecting dust.
2. Early 2008 - Has become annoyed at the whole my console is better than yours issue inserted by person (1) and is pushed further away from gaming but not further away from friends that game, this person has in action relegated gaming to a moody taste.
3. Late 2007 - Also has meetings of the minds with person (4) and has his first incurrence with the Wii phenomena and even goes to person (4)'s house on multiple occasions to play but finds gaming distasteful unless with friends in real life. He's always willing to hang out and play games.
4. Mid 2007 - Has meeting of the minds with (1) and begins to check the internet for credible proof of his purchase, goes out and buys a PS3 to test what it is that makes it next gen, at this point he does play his PS3 more so than his Wii through 2007, this person can speak to 3 & 1 over PSN.
Stage 3: The summary of thought
1. Mid 2008 - His fanboyism goes unchecked as 4, a few outside of this test group, and 2 stay away from him and 3 just doesn't go out of his way to meet 1. Eventually his family member sees a Wiifit commercial and she wants it, as he normally buys her electronics, he bursts into a primal rage and denies her it and advocates that she should not get it and that it is "last gen."
2. Mid 2008 - His mother sees Wiifit commercial and he himself wants to get it for Brain Age, Sim City, Spore and a few other games plus he likes Wii boxing in the wii sports package, oh and Mario Kart, because his teacher plays it. (He's in high school) However he wants to wait till his mother gets hers so he doesn't have to share his.
3. Mid 2008 - Plays Boom Blox and sees Spore and Sim City, as well as RRR2 and 3 for the balance board (he is very interested in the balance board.) and decides to get a Wii only to not be able to find one, then get's into technical talks with (4) about the Wii's specs and how it emulates PS2 coding and other mumbo. (boring talk)
4. Mid 2008 - I don't know haven't seen him in a while to really gauge him now O.o.
That was pretty good I'd say.
-------------
I'm figuring that's the normal scenario, but I think what happened to (1) was kind of sad, but I'm being objective I believe to the best of my ability, in case your wondering, he has internet friends that keep him busy anyway so he's not exactly lonely.
I'm Unamerica and you can too.
