Forums - Nintendo - Ubisoft responds to Wii-owners upset with quality of titles

Also why can smaller devlopers such as platinum games balance their support for all three consoles, but ubisoft a far larger developer can't?

And they are getting funding from Sega, despite the fact that Sega-Sammy has been in either the red, or had reduced profits for years. Ubisoft has been doing pretty well, last I heard.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Well sega isn't as big as ubisoft. They may get that big, but they lost so much they aren't anymore.

@ Bored4life, I'm glad you're willing to backup your points with such zeal. I told you what I've been hearing on the 'net: "Ubisoft is using Wii shovelware to fund PS360 projects." That's quite the opposite from "Ubisoft is losing mad moneyz on the Imagine Babyz"

They did it with RRR and Red Steel money they gained from launch, however they aren't making that money anymore.

Also.Still no links.

Yea, none of the profit from the PS360 games goes toward making future games. PS the wii games are funded through dotations.

Here's a PS for you.

PS:You've made up so many different conflicting arguments that it's quite sad for you to say this now. There is something called a post history to check up on the few posts you have made on this site and your purpose for being here is clear.I already knew that no matter what is said here you would persist but I chose to be patient and refute every new argument that was brought up for the sake of clarity fror other posters.

However it seems that you have run out of arguments. Please refer back to previous posts for the refutation to your current drivel.Due to the varying anti-wii content posted this was bound to happen sooner or later. Now look back in the previous pages for the answers you don't even want in the first place. This will most likely be the status quo from now on.

Thank You Everyone.

What are the conflicting arguements i've made? I'd like to hear them.

BTW, the "companies aren't nice" line is bullshit, because that argument didn't hold water for Nintendo in the NES days, and it doesn't hold water for UIbisoft now.

Games are a business, but ALSO an artistic medium. One developer outright denying their best work, with NO REAL REASON, is bullshit.

And defending that is bullshit, because I don't think you'd respect the HD consoles getting crap games to avoid HD development costs.

Hey, I totally understand why you're upset. If Ubisoft pulled this shit on my PS3, I'd be upset too. But I would look at from Ubisoft's perspective and understand that they did what they thought was best for the company. If it turned out other companies followed Ubisoft's example, I would be pretty pissed I wasted $600. But when you spend money on systems early on in their lives, the risk you take is that the games you want don't show up on your system of choice. When it doesn't work out how you wanted, you either stick with your system or get a different one. I wish my Dreamcast could have lived on longer but lack of third party support (especially the lack of EA sports games) had a hand in defeating that system. I moved on to the PS2 and Gamecube.

The Dreamcast was losing money, and sales slowed when the PS2 came along. And this is not spending on the Wii early in it's life. The system is well along. There has been no real proof big budget games don't sell on the Wii, so Ubisoft pretending it is so is what is really pissing us off.

That's also what merkh isn't acknowledging. It's that Ubisoft is telling lies to justify their position.

Wait a second, I never said Ubisoft isn't/didn't lie? I said boohoo what can ya do. They are obviously in the black when it comes to Wii or their development would have been haulted or changed. What jman said could be true, they could be going for a hit or miss type scenario. It seems like the only thing you guys are mad at is a lie from an Ubi rep. Thats why i say get over it, if there was no promise can you honestly say wth Ubi stop giving us this shit? No. So pretend this lie is just like the other hundred lies you hear through the course of a day and get on with life

It's that they are still telling lies to justify their posotition. It's in the OP. They broke a promise. Okay. They are spinning numbers to justify that promiste breaking. If you think that's not a bad thing, you must think it's a good thing for companies to pretend markets don't exist (in this case, Wii owners who buy hardcore games). It's not a good thing, and companies throughout this industry's history have learned how foolish it is, even Nintendo in the past.

Forget about the promise already!

Did you read my comment? It's not about the promise right now. It's about lies of the Wii's market.

And so be it if they need to learn from their mistake (that is if their making one). They probably don't have the resourses to develop big time games for Wii and Ps360,

Didn't I earlier state that if that was the case, they should outright admit it?

so should they stop developing for something their already good at and can easily port and therefore satisfy two systems userbases? or should they take a risk on wii.

Why aren't the HD systems a risk? In order for risk to be worse on the Wii than the HD systems, then there would have to be a better success to failure ratio, with the big budget, and heavily hyped games. They are almost no such games on the Wii to truly determine if the risk is there, so you claim of a risk is just as much of a lie as jman's.

You must think that they are retarded as a company, i know it might be hard to understand but its someones job to do this planning and strategizing between the consoles. Ubisoft is/has been a leading developer for years now so they're doing something right, sorry its not going your way... Crying doesnt fix it.

Who says we are crying? We are protesting. We are gamers. They need are money. It is our right to insist we get heard. They don't have to listen, but don't you pretend we have no business as gamers being upset at the actions of a gaming company. You think Sony's negative hype around the PS3 launch had no effect on the company's turnaround now? Kaz Harai more or less admitted that was a big problem.

1) The promise comment wasn't directed to you.

2) Why would they admit their wrong?

I meant admit they just don't want to put the effort into the Wii.

They don't need to they're still making money, admitting they're wrong would only further repel gamers, especially if they dont plan to change anytime soon

3) They aren't a risk because they know what they're capable of,

Aren't a risk? Don't you know what the word "risk" means? Don't you even know that it is impossible to eliminate risk in whether something will turn a profit, when you aren't dealing with a vital product (like oil, power, water)? Don't you even know that basic business fact?

go figure i guess years of developing with Microsoft and Sony taught them a thing or two. By spending more time on wii, they risk compromising PS360 sales which generate most of their revenue.

How does spending more time on the Wii compromise HD game sales? Ubisoft is large developer. They have a past on putting different teams on games to avoid such compromising.

And I though Ubisoft could just do what they wanted. Why are you giving them an excuse now?

4) You are crying

Do you see tears? You can't, therefore that comment is bullshit. You can see our words, but that proves complaining. Not the same thing. We are mad, not greiving.

and they don't need your money, they need gamers money, apperently they are getting money from gamers too because last time i checked they arent bankrupt.

Straw man. We didn't claim they were desperately in need of our cash. It's that they can get MORE CASH from hardcore Wii owners by giving them actual hardcore games.

And as customers, we still have a right to complain.

If they came out and said " We're putting no effort into wii, do you think the sales of current games would go up or down? who would saying that benefit... Kthx

Ok, so games like Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, and Splinter Cell have the same risks that wii entering the realm of game development for a system they are unfamiliar with? Not even close

Taking any people away from your biggest money maker isnt going to help you make money?

What excuse? They are doing what they want.

You're whining like they probably do in the Babyz game. Thats probably why they made that for wii!

And they make even more money from hardcore PS360 owners. They choose to go with more profit.

DO you know what also is screwed up. Look at posts like these. Fans of these games and ubisoft are even complaining

"I won't be here long, I only just joined up to post my opinion on the matter, as I'm sure most of you have.

Being a Gamecube supporter wasn't easy. Poor sales and reputation, not many games, no true killer app (mario, zelda etc were great games, an undeniable fact, but they weren't true system sellers), and shoddy third-party support. Except for you Ubisoft. You treated the gamecube like an equal. Even when PS2 and Xbox were blitzing ahead in sales, you didn't ignore us, you let us have some great games to enjoy, and I thank you for that.

At the start of this generation of consoles, I thought the same would happen, that we would get a great amount of support from you, and to an extent, this was true. Red Steel was a decent effort, if only hampered by being rushed for launch. Rayman Raving Rabbids was made from a platformer into a party game, which admittedly peeved me off a little, but I gave you the benefit of the doubt, after all, for a new console, you needed some warmup time. And the game turned out alright anyway.

Well, it's been long enough to wait. Where are the results Ubisoft?

You now treat the userbase of the Wii as simpletons, that will buy any of your shoddy products. Well, guess what? We are far from being like that.
There is no Hardcore audience on Wii? Absolute Bull. I'm not a casual gamer, and yet I enjoy the best of both worlds, Brain Training and Mario Galaxy. Does that make your brains implode?
1 million of us have brought Red Steel, a hardcore title no less, and now what do we have to show for it? Half-arsed ports? Nintendog Clones that aren't even half as good?
A warning to you, don't you dare bite the hand that feeds you, many Nintendo supporters are vying for your blood right now, and I don't blame them one single bit.

From now on, I will boycott every Ubisoft game I see, and I will tell everyone I know to do the same. In a gaming shop, I will enform anyone interested enough to buy a Ubisoft Wii game exactly how they treat their audience. and on the off-chance that you do make a great game again? I'll be getting it second-hand, you will not get a penny from me any longer. You now have many years of making-up to do before I will even consider using money on your name again.

Oh, and LostinBlue? Good work man, I applaud your efforts here. Keep it up!"

"What scares me about this company is that, not only are they blatantly ignoring the enraged responses from Wii owners that feel shafted by the lack of respect from this developer, but this sort of "shovel **** for profit" mentality is starting to transfer over to the other consoles.

I've waited five years....FIVE YEARS for a sequel to BG&E and when I saw that trailer at Ubidays, you couldn't slap the smile off my face. Then it wasn't coming to the Wii; I was a bit peeved but alright, since I own a 360 as well.
Then, I saw this:
http://kotaku.com/5011747/beyond-good--evil-too-difficu...quel-more-accessible
And, I kid you not, I nearly cried.

Come on, Ubi, I KNOW you are capable of quality titles. I've played BG&E, Sands of Time, Assassin's Creed....I know what you're capable of. Give us that quality. GIVE US THOSE GAMES. Don't keep dragging your name through the mud. Please?"

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/9251049315/m/4081042366/p/14

Not only is ubisoft giving the wii poor support, they are also ruining franchises like BG&E to the fans that actually bought the game.

That first post you quoted is really well written. I really feel for the guy. The difference now compared the Gamecube days is that back then porting a game from the PS2 or Xbox over to the GC was pretty easy as they were all pretty comparable systems. Now the Wii is so vastly different from the 360 and PS3 that it's forced companies like Ubisoft to make a decision: either develop for th PS360 OR the Wii. Back then basically one team could make all three multi-platform games. Now, to make a game for all three systems, you would have to have two separate teams and that means quite a bit extra cost.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

 No No I do.

Well after reading 7 pages. Here is my view.

I would like to see Ubisoft put some EFFORT into a Wii game ie no crappy badly made ports no casual BS. Something that the so called "HARDCORE GAMER" will want to buy. Averaging a Score of 80-90 from major site reviews.

IF THAT GAME FAILS TO SELL. THEN THEY CAN COME OUT AND SAY THIS SHIT and NOT BEFORE.
