We all know the cons of the 360, (since every other reply in pro xbox threads are usually "why buy something that will break down" and "enjoy the turbo engine noise in your living room") so I wanted to discuss the cons of the PS3. I know a lot of members here think its the greatest machine in the world, but to keep these forums fair and balanced the cons should also be mentioned.

Online

1 - Lack of demos and content compared to Live
2 - No multiplatform betas released
3 - No online standards for achievements, or gamer score
4 - Matchmaking servers runned by 3rd parties, which tend to mean hiccups in the first days of launch

Software/Games development

1 - Smallest userbase of the three means less budget for PS3 titles or exclusive deals announced
2 - BC missing in all new consoles
3 - Bad history with 360 ports
4 - Small PC developers can't afford to port to PS3
5 - Worse first year of all three consoles in terms of games library, best rated game was a 360 port

Controller

1 - Sixaxis has no rumble
2 - No replaceable batteries
3 - Blue tooth interference

Hardware

1. Its still the most expensive console of the three
2. Its huge and it needs constant dusting

Am I missing anything??

those two are pros rather than Cons

rehcarchable battery :do you cosider that it's a con for you cellphone? no,it's also much better for environment.

The batteries in most cell phones can be replaced. You have to send your controller to Sony if its battery dies. I prefer replaceable batteries so I don't have downtime. Bluetooth is a very questionable inclusion. Every device connected to it comes out of the 7 device pool. This includes your Bluetooth headsets, remote control, etc. One annoying aspect is the lack of an IR port. This means you have to buy the PS3 remote and can't use universal remotes (like my wonderful Logitech Harmony).

I give that post a 9.0.

I know a lot of members here think its the greatest machine in the world, but to keep these forums fair and balanced the cons should also be mentioned.

Online

1 - Lack of demos and content compared to Live - Agree
2 - No multiplatform betas released - Agree
3 - No online standards for achievements, or gamer score - Agree but that's coming soon in the form of trophies and probably that gamercard rumor
4 - Matchmaking servers runned by 3rd parties, which tend to mean hiccups in the first days of launch - Well that's a problem, but Live also had server problems before, overall I find my online experience to be enjoyable.

Software/Games development

1 - Smallest userbase of the three means less budget for PS3 titles or exclusive deals announced - Disagree, Sony can always moneyhat if they really want an exclusive.
2 - BC missing in all new consoles - Agree greatly, this could be remedied by Software Emulation Backwards Compatibility, hopefully SCEJ is working on it
3 - Bad history with 360 ports - Agree but it has gotten better as of late
4 - Small PC developers can't afford to port to PS3 - Disagree. Care to give an example?
5 - Worse first year of all three consoles in terms of games library, best rated game was a 360 port - Is that relevant today? Plus the PS3 sold more than the 360 in its first 52 weeks(albeit by a small margin)

Controller

1 - Sixaxis has no rumble - DS3 has rumble
2 - No replaceable batteries - Rechargeable batteries
3 - Blue tooth interference - Haven't experienced this problem

Hardware

1. Its still the most expensive console of the three - True this is a problem, but it'll be that way for a long time, what Sony needs is a $299 entry price point
2. Its huge and it needs constant dusting - Is this really one of your points or are you joking?

Am I missing anything??

OP made some good points and some bad ones, overall ok post.

One con to rule the all, and it belongs to the 360 and it supersedes any and all the cons you put for the PS3, it's the dreaded RRoD the 360 suffers from

Note to self - Spartan thinks that having to throw away your controller when the battery is fried and having various blue tooth gagdets interfere with the controller are good things...

Last I heard, Sony will replace your controller if the battery croaks.

I give that post a 9.2.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

I don't like how you have to turn on your controller after starting up a PS2 game. Or how you get logged out while watching a movie or playing a PS2 game.

Pretty much nitpicking now, but oh well.

Yea, and it isn't much of a concern anymore with new 360s.  You can say it was a con with 360s.

I give that post a 9.0.

Online

1 - Lack of demos and content compared to Live - Quality not Quantity
2 - No multiplatform betas released - So what, it has exclusive Betas like MGO
3 - No online standards for achievements, or gamer score To me thats a pro, i hate going on live and hearing some lifeless 10 year old bragging.
4 - Matchmaking servers runned by 3rd parties, which tend to mean hiccups in the first days of launch - First deccent point, thats 3rd parties fault not the PS3's though.

Software/Games development

1 - Smallest userbase of the three means less budget for PS3 titles or exclusive deals announced Resistance, Uncharted, Gran Turismo and LBP to name but a few.
2 - BC missing in all new consoles Dont care, i have a PS2 as do many PS3 owners
3 - Bad history with 360 ports Fair point, again thats more to do with 3rd parties than the PS3 itself
4 - Small PC developers can't afford to port to PS3 Eh? Examples?
5 - Worse first year of all three consoles in terms of games library, best rated game was a 360 port Actually COD4 was multiplatform, not a port. Despite this so called worst libary it had a better first year than the 360.

Controller

1 - Sixaxis has no rumble Dualshock 3 is coming soon
2 - No replaceable batteries This is a Pro, its USB charge which means no paying for extra batteries
3 - Blue tooth interference Whats wrong with bluetooth exactly?

Hardware

1. Its still the most expensive console of the three Yet sells better than the 360 and is also the most powerfull
2. Its huge and it needs constant dusting This is just clutching at straws

Am I missing anything?? Yes a criticism thats constructive.

Hmmm more cons ay, here's a few more that annoy me:

Controller charge cord too small. - Agree greatly

Very very poor web browser (worst I've seen on a console).  - Heh who cares about web browsers on console, but I guess, personally I've never used it.

Games that require download to HDD. - Yes it's gettting ridiculous

Having to turn the controller on as well as the PS3. - I turn on both at the same time by turning the controller on

Controller charge cord too small. Fair Point

Very very poor web browser (worst I've seen on a console). It does for me, but i have a PC anyway as do most people

Games that require download to HDD. Can be anoying, but does make games more stable.

Having to turn the controller on as well as the PS3.Same as the 360, again this is straw clutching.

The sixaxis batteries hella last.  360 controllers lack motion controls.  Dualshock3 doesn't lack either.

With all the retarded extras you have to buy for 360 to make it match up to a PS3, 360 costs more.  Which makes MS's constant claims to have taken in the most $ oveall this gen perverse: they deliberately ran up the price on accessories and then said PS3 was too expensive, when it had all that shit (and more: Blu-Ray) built in.

PS3 (free) online gameplay is smoother overall.  Multiple sites agree.  Which big site was it that gave CoD4 PS3 the nod over the 360 version in head to head because of the better online gameplay?  Can't remember, they did a bunch of 4 on 4 multiplat game face offs recently and PS3 games won most of them.  The days of predictably inferior PS3 versions are over.  Teh C3LL unlocked but not mastered.

It does need constant dusting to stay beautiful.  But it is beautiful, and cool, and quiet.  Unlike the ...oh, you already alluded to this stuff...
