Forums - General Discussion - Is English Football Doomed?

Stories in the media reccentley have led me to believe that the English Premier League and as a result the England team are slowly dying, this is for several reasons, the first being foreign players, out of 498 players only 170 were English, thats less than 35%, i think something has to be done, but the question is what, the FA need to promote young english talent in english clubs, as it stands young english players are marginalised in favour of foreign players, teams like arsenal played an average of 1 english player ever 4/5 games last season, which just makes a joke of the English part of the leagues name. The next problem is the FA, theyre root and branch review has so far acheived absolutley nothing, and theyre plan to play a game overseas tells me that they are pretty much anti-england and are on the verge of removing England from the leagues title, Finally the last promblem is the clubs, too many of them dont give young english players a chance and instead play overseas players. What i want to know is what people think can be done to help and whether or not you want to see an English premiership in 10 years time?

Personally im normally against discrimination, but in the case of the English Premiership, i think some sort of quota is unfortunatley necessary, this is because of teams like arsenals ignorance of their English status, i think a quota of 7 or 8 foreign players in a team is about right.

If youre an Enlish football fan, tell me what you think should be done, If youre not but like football, tell me what you think of the situation.

It was a decent read until you started pointing the finger at Arsenal.

The problem with football, is that the international competitions are no longer the pinacle of entertainment, the champions league and Premiership are. The teams do not have enough time to gel, and the problem is not with the talent, nearly all of our players are world class, but they do not play as a team. The fierce rivalry between the likes of chelsea and man u (who make up most of the England team) will prevent that team from ever properly gelling and playing good football. Personally, I have lost interest in international football, and I dont see any way of getting it back

well steve mclarens gone so lets just see how doomed the English team really are.

Arsenal would buy english players but

A they cost too much

and

B we dont have 30 million smackers to blow on one decent english player when wenger can get 6 or 7 quality young foreigners for that much

A - Nonsense, getting in good young players from your own academy would be very cheap.

B - Exactly the sort of attitude thats killing the game in this country.

So you think we should populate our team with 14 year olds?

Nice!

You shoud keep your young english players training up in your academy untill their 16/17 then give them a few games for the first team to let them gian experience and build their skills, how do you think Rooney, Owen, Ferdinand, Terry and Gerrard got into the England team, please dont make silly posts, at no point did i suggest you play 14 year olds, and nor would i as the minimum age you can play in the Premier league is 16.
