Forums - Nintendo - Tecmo Bowl for Wii

From IGN:

Tecmo brings its classic football franchise to Nintendo's console.

In a mailer sent to press today, Tecmo confirmed that a Wii build of Tecmo Bowl is also in development.

"Tecmo Bowl: Kickoff is scheduled for release this September [on DS]," Tecmo wrote. "A Wii version of Tecmo Bowl is in development and scheduled for release in 2009. However, it is too early to discuss the details of that version of the game."

We will have more on the Wii build in the coming months.

I'm totally getting this game.

If it's oldschool style i'll get it.

I still rank Tecmo Superbowl as the best football game of all time.

this is great news... if they nail it. EA and Midway will run for their money

But Tecmo Bowl III was the FINAL EDITION! LIES alll LIES!!

In all seriousness though i want it bad, i loved throwing 120 yard passes in Tecmo Bowl 1. Endzone to endzone baby.

Wow tecmo is somewhat supporting the wii with Fatal Frame IV and Tecmo Bowl.

I wonder how they will pull it off. Doesn't EA own the rights to the NFL for like 30 years or something like that?

 They'll do 1 of 2 things.

1) Made up names.  Most likely, possibly do the old "parody real players" thing like those of Mutant League games did.

2) Old players names.  Classic players like say... Bo Jackson aren't covered by the deal... just saying... their are no players left in the NFL who were in the original Tecmo Superbowl.

Back in the day, Tecmo didn't have the liscense to the NFL itself, just the NFLPA. They just stated the City Name and copied the likeness of their playbook. If you noticed, it was SF vs. Chicago, but there was never a mention of the niners or bears.

I wonder if they will do the same thing and if that's still allowed for Tecmo to reach an agreement with just the union.

hmm, lots of new wii games announced these days =D. I LIKE IT
