Forums - Sales - In retrospect, Sony definitly should have waited another year for PS3

And made it a lot more powerful in that time. Enough to be significantly more powerful than 360.

Launching in the year that they did didn't gain them anything. Sales are miserable in that time, so it's not as if you can say well, they held back 360 from gaining even more. Probably Wii did that more than Ps3 if anything.

I dont see Sony losing much of anything if they had waited another year on PS3. As it stands they are in big trouble...

i Disagree about the power thing- the ps3 as is , is fine powerwise.

why they should have delayed is so that the "must have" games that are due in the next 6-12 months...would be almost done/done and they would have had SIGNIFICANTLY more quality release titles.

Nah. I think they should have launched a year earlier, considering that there 'hardcore' competition is the 360. Letting them gain this much ground-US not Japan- could cost them NA in the future. Only time will tell.

the whole wait a year or two to over power your competition has never worked.

you are either are new gen or you are not.

or perhaps they should have waited so the manufacturing costs would drop down significantly enough to lauch at the system at 300, 400 and with titles like FFXIII and MGS4 gracing the console only a couple of months after launch, that could have driven sales but the playstation dominance is gone. There's too much competition now.

Nice idea, but impossible. Remember the hardware/tech delays that caused them to delay the launch as it is.

If you are going to launch a NEW piece of fancy, expensive equipment - at the least, make it a compelling buy. Sony have done a great job of making it a non-compelling buy to date.

I still think an extra year wait could have worked for them. They could have had an awesome Xmas '07, and made a point of saying "360 is old tech", by having a 2 year gap - and the games to prove it.

If they wanted to sell more PS3s, they woulda just had a DVD drive in there, and a normal CPU, and it coulda sold for $350.

Donwii- A year earlier would have helped a lot too. Although I think Blu_ray wasn't ready and Sony is just slow. They had the dominant Ps2 so they weren't really prepared with a plan for Ps3 and that is why they have a lot of the problems they do now.

Blu3, nu-uh. The PS3's problem has never been that it's $600. The problem has always been that it looks just like a 360 AND costs $600.

But hey, if you're happy with where Sony is right now, I think you can have it! The fact is they are struggling big time and I dont see anyway for them to improve things for the next 5-7 years. So you definitly should agree with me.

You're staring at 5-7 years of struggles with Ps3 imo Blu3. They had to do something different.

Xbox proved the most powerful system always wins, as it beat the much better supported Gamecube, and even took a few from PS2 despite that it started at zero, and could have sold much more if MS hadn't ended it early after 4 years.

they should have waited.hyped it up..........then waited for a killer line up...all in all Ms beat em 1 year earlier and nintendo wants to be the nail in the coffin
