I have no doubt that the post is fake.
However, I do believe that this sort of thinking is taking place, if not so explicitly stated by developers.

If sell numbers could go up for the few hardcore Wii games, maybe it'll change.
I got my Wii looking into Red Steel, D:DoC, and Project H.A.M.M.E.R.
Red Steel sucked, HAMMER was canned, and DoC... well there hasn't been much news on that.
Hopefully the Conduit and MadWorld will sell well.
I don't mind Wii Sports, BoomBlox looks like something I'd like, I like Casual games once in a while, I'm just sick of every 3rd party game being minigame/bad graphic/casual games.
But, on the bright side, we got a couple of hardcore games coming out this year, last year for the Wii there were almost none.
So maybe next year will be better.

I own all of lastgen systems as of October 2008. (Finally got a Dreamcast)
I own every currentgen system except PS3.
Why dont you make a PS3, 360, or PC game. Ya, make a PC game. That way you get the audience you want for your game without dumbing it down.

Haven't you heard? The PC market is dying.

I've worked in many large companies and we allow people in meeting to give them training and experience. Sometimes talented developers are morons in their English literary style. Sometimes people are hired as talented developers, that are not in fact, talented developers. The person's analysis was obviously impacted by his view of the 'truth' which I agree, probably relates more to what other people have been saying in forum posts...but it could very well be true that he is being mostly honest, and related what he saw in a meeting, as some kind of substantiation to what he knows is the general perception. So, in other words, lie or not a lie, is a big guess. I tend to take people at their word....for one, why not? Its a nicer way to live, and is equally harmless. Either way, the shovelware on the Wii platform, is what it is. I love the Wii though, and even if I have to rely on Nintendo to put out the quality titles, Wii Fit and Wii Sports have made that console for me....I enjoy it immensely. |
If I tell you I'm a game developer, or own a game store, or that I'm Steven Speilberg, it's basically a harmless lie. But when I take that lie and try to peddle bogus information with it - that's less harmless. It misleads people into expecting certain things or comming to an incorrect analysis from the market.
With something like this, there is NO reason to believe it. It lacks any credibility, and basically reinforces opinions that fanboys already have. Unless there is some way to independently verify this information, it must be treated with healthy skepticism. But I can almost guarantee that if we treated it as a true story, Wiibashers would be rolling it out as Exhibit A for why the Wii is killing games.
Honestly this has all the hallmarks of a lie. Reinforce what people suspect, give a few details, but none of them relevant, and pretend that you're a supporter of the side you are undermining.
Obviously, if this is true:
1. They did not read http://malstrom.50webs.com/birdman.html
2. They did not read reviews because most Wii games get about 80 ... and casual ones tend to get worse.

1) Few care about some backwater writer on 50webs.com.
This whole casual/hardcore rift is going to harm Nintendo's image to many gamers more and more so as time goes by if it isn't somehow dealt with.
