There a couple other game collection sharing threads, but what sets this apart is that if you post the games you have, tell us why you you bought them or got them for Christmas/Birthday/etc.
I am actually curious.
NOTE: If you don't want to list all your games, just post a few you think have interesting reasons. Or you could list your games in sections.
Of course I will start. You can list the games in any order you want, but for me, it will be by system (in the order my family got them), and then games by semi-alphabetical order (as in San Andreas is listed after Vice City because it came out afterwards).
NOTE: I'm starting with the 5th gen, since even though I have an SNES, I sacrificed most of my games to the ever-hungry Gamestop.
N64 (It's actually my sister's. I'm 29, but my family finds living together is a great way to share the bills in this economy)
Goldeneye: Played it at someone else's house, and thought it kicked ass, even if the aiming is annoying.
Paper Mario: I have Super Mario RPG, and even though it's a different style, it still is fun as hell.
Games my family owns (so I can't vouch for why they all were bought): Dr. Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Mario Party 3, and Super Mario 64.
Playstation 1
Alundra: Borrowed this game, and then bought my own copy because the visuals and gameplay were a treat.
Brave Fencer Musashi: Borrowed a copy from someone, and I had to have it. The gameplay was nice, but the music is incredible.
Chrono Cross: Was a fan of Chrono Trigger, which is why I got it, but this game honestly disappointed me. That is for another thread, though.
Crash Team Racing: I'm more of an Insomniac Fan (starting with the Spyro Trilogy) than a Naughty Dog fan, but I'm also a Mario Kart fan, and this game does caprture the fun of that series.
Dino Crisis: I'm also a Resident Evil fan (starting with 2), and having it with dinosaurs was just too cool to pass up. I actually think the next two were hurt by not following this.
Dragon Quest VII (despite what is say on the box): I heard this game was quite a deep RPG experience, despite the graphics. It delivered, and I find the reduced graphics seem to help with the loading times.
Final Fantasy VII: I'm a fan of the series, so I got all I could (my brother owns VIII).
Final Fantasy IX: See above.
Final Fantasy Anthology/ Chronicles: Sure the loading times are irritating, but it's not that bad.
Final Fantasy Tactics: I became a bit of a fan of strategy RPGs when I played Vandal Hearts. I haven't gotten my own copy of that yet, but this is still a pretty good game.
Legend of Dragoon: Sure the story is generic, but I found the game fun, especially the battle system (which apparently carries into Lost Oddessy).
Lunar The Silver Star: Played a demo of it. Sure the story is generic sugar, but the gameplay had enough strategy elements to interest me (Grandia even topped that, but I sacrificed that game to you-know-what
).
Shadow Madness: Sure it's not the best RPG, but it's nice to play.
Soul Blade: Not that big of a fighting game fan, but this is one of the few series I do like.
Soul Reaver: My brother has it on the Dreamcast, but I liked it so much, I wanted my own copy (and it was a nice price at Gamestop, which fortunately does give back good things).
Suikoden: Also a gift from Gamestop.
Vagrant Story: Rented this once, and bought it when I could.
Xenogears: Although Xenosaga looked cheesy to me, this game's story is deeper than I thought. I really hope Nintendo gets S-E to work with Monolith to get a sequel.
Games my family owns: Castlevania Symphony of the Night (you'd think we'd forget that game?), Danger Girl (I don't know why), Final Fantasy VIII (actually our favorite of the 3D FF games), Lunar Eternal Blue, Mega Man 8, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, Star Wars Masters of Teras Kasi (not really Tekken, but we actually like it), Vampire Hunter D.
Gameboy Advance
Castlevania Double Pack: Let's see, two games that carried on the spirit of Symphony of the Night, for the price of one. I think this is clear.
Final Fanstay Dawn of Souls: Had beaten FF1 on the NES, but I wanted to see all the bonuses of this, and play FFII.
Final Fantasy IV/V: Have them on the PS1, but these had great deals on them.
Golden Sun: Heard really good things, and this game is actually the first 6th gen I got.
Golden Sun The Lost Age: Well with as good as the first one is...
Legend of Zelda The Minnish Cap: Big Zelda fan, so this was a no brainer.
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga: Another spiritual successor to Mario RPG.
Tales of Phantasia: As you've likely seen, I'm a bit of an RPG fan, so I'll just make that the point for further games.
Games my family owns: Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past, Mario Kart Super Circut, Pac-Man Collection, Spyro Season of Ice.
Dreamcast (belongs to my brother, and so do all the games, but we still have one)
My brother's games: Air Force Delta, Alone in the Dark The New Nightmare, Armada, Bang! Gunship Elite, Crazy Taxi, Dino Crisis, Evil Dead Hail to the King, Grandia II, Phantasy Star Online, Quake III, Ready 2 Rumble, Record of Lodoss War, Resident Evil Code Veronica, Shenmue, Sonice Adventure, Sonic Shuffle, Soul Calibur, Sould Reaver, Timesplitters, Tokyo Xtreme Racer, Toy Commander.
Gamecube
Battalion Wars: Never played the Nintendo Wars series before, but this was a great deal, and I like the real-time play.
Eternal Darkness: Heard it kicked ass. Simple as that.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: I actually wanted to see what it was like. It's not that bad actually.
Legend of Zelda Collection: This was one of the two games I bought when I first got the Gamecube. I was damn happy to get a GC when this was being offered.
Legend of Zelda the Wind Waker: Yes, the sea travel is tedious. Yes, everything else is great to play.
Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess: Since it's obvious I'm a big Zelda fan, this was a no brainer. It's also one of only four 6th gen games so far I paid $40 for (all others were $30 or less).
Lego Star Wars: I saw the first trailers for this and laughed. I was so glad this sold well enough be on the Player's Choice list.
Lego Star Wars II: See above.
Mario Kart Double Dash: Fan of the series.
Metroid Prime: Big Metroid fan, and I played the demo of this. Hence it was the other game I bought when I first got a Gamecube.
Metroid Prime 2: I heard it wasn't as awesome as the first game, but 2 shades less than aesome is still pretty damn good.
Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door: I actually got this before I got the first Paper Mario. The same reasons I got that one still apply here.
Resident Evil: All the greatness of Resident Evil, with the spookiest atmosphere yet. No brainer.
Resident Evil 0: Yes, it's more of the same, but it's still fun.
Resident Evil 2: My brother has this on the PS1, but this has the bonus features, and let's you skip cut scenes.
Resident Evil 4: Was the first 6th gen game I paid $40 for. I heard it was that good, and it actually is that good.
Simpsons Hit & Run: Am a GTA fan, and I heard this was one of the few knock-offs that was any good. The sharp writing and humor is a great bonus.
Skies of Arcadia: Might have seen it's absent in my brother's Dreamcast games, so this was another gift from Gamestop.
Soul Calibur II: The fun of the Soul series, and playing as Link.
Spyro A Hero's Tail: More of a fan of the Insomniac games, but this was offered for $10, so I figured, "What the hell." It's nowhere near the first three in terms of story and writing, but actually pretty good in terms of gameplay and design
Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Played a demo of this, and it sold me on it.
Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Still fun, even if the foot gameplay needs work.
Super Smash Bros Melee: Even before I heard this was hit, I was sold on the demos.
Tales of Symphonia: RPG fan.
True Crime Streets of LA: Another GTA knock-off that I heard was actually decent.
Games my family owns: Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Sunshine.
Playstation 2
Beyond Good & Evil: Heard good things about it, and it was even better than what I heard.
Black: Heard good things about it as well.
Bully: GTA fan, and I heard this had even deeper gameplay than those games.
Dark Cloud: A gift from Gamestop.
Devil May Cry: Resident Evil with gun fu. Enought for me.
Disgaea 2: Not a gift from Gamestop, but from Toys R Us. There it was, for $15. And with what the first game was selling for, this was a true gift.
Dragon Quest VIII: VII made me a fan of the series already, so this was a must buy for me. The soundtrack is actually my second favorite, behind Musashi.
Final Fantasy X, X-2, and XII: Fan of the series, but still a budget gamer, so XI is out of the question (and I have a slim PS2 anyway).
Genesis Collection: I have a confession. I used to be a Nintendo fanboy in the 16-bit era. Then I played games on other systems, and saw they were actually good. So I realized what an ass I was being, and vowed to be objective.* So having this collection of games I missed, for just $20, was another no brainer for me.
God of War: Heard good things about this game, although I'm not sure I need to play the rest. If one had a free camera, and let me skip the cut scenes, I might get it.
Grand Theft Auto III, VC, SA, LCS, and VCS: My brother bought Vice City for the PC, and I liked it, but didn't get into the controls that much. Then he borrowed San Andreas, and I found I liked the control and I loved the game. I got III, then the rest of them. Even the PSP games, since I don't have a PSP yet.
Grandia III: I heard the story is throwaway, but the battle system is just as good at the rest.
Half-Life: Yes, it's on the PC. Yet this has some extras I wanted.
Kingdom Hearts: Heard good things about this game, and was actually the first PS2 game I got.
Kingdom Hearts II: Sure the story of the first game was total cheese, but I liked the gameplay, and did want to see what happened next.
Okami: The latest of the 6th gen games I paid $40 for. I was sold on playing a demo of it.
Onimusha 3: Borrowed a copy of it, but didn't get to complete it. Thus I got my own.
Onimusha Dawn of Dreams: Even more hacking and slashing, but not in a repetative way (I think you know which Koei games I mean).
Ratchet & Clank, Going Commando, and Up Your Arsenal: Spyro on the PS1 made me a fan of Insomniac. So I got Going Commando to see if it lived up (I heard that it did, but I wanted to be sure). Then I got the other two.
Resident Evil Code Veronica: Just as with Dino Crisis and Sould Reaver, my brother has this on the DC, but I wanted my own.
Resident Evil 4: Yes, I have it for both. I also paid $40 for both on the same day. I really heard it was that good. Fortunately, both are worth my money.
Radiata Stories: Someone at a game shop recommended it to me, and it is a fun game.
Shadow of the Colossus: Sold on the demo. It's a damb beautiful game, even with the limitations of the system.
Soul Reaver 2: I liked the first one enough to get my own copy, so I clearly wanted the next one.
Star Ocean 'Till the End of Time: Hadn't played the series before, but it was on the Greatest Hits list, and I knew it played similar to the Tales games.
Suikoden III: Another gift from Gamestop.
Suikoden Tactics: Another gift from Toys R Us, also just $15 (also paid that much there for FF IV Advance).
Games my family owns: Max Payne 2, Soul Calibut II, Sould Calibur III, Tetris Worlds.
PC
Freedom Force: Sold on the demo.
Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the ring: A birthday gift from my brother, and it's actually not that bad.
Psychonauts: Found a great deal for it, and I didn't want Yahtzee to stay mad at me.
Septera Core: Was sold as a doulbe pack with Shogo, and these were my first PC games of their genres.
Seven Kingdoms II: A Christmas gift.
Shogo: See above.
Siberia I & II pack: A birthday gift.
Games my family owns: Diablo II, GTA Vice City, Max Payne, Neverwinter Nights, Pharaoh, Rome Total War, Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy, and World of Warcraft.
Well, that's it. We don't have any 7th gen systems yet. Also, nothing against the Xbox. It was just discontinued before the price went down enough for us and before there were enough games we wanted.
Now you show us yours!
* Some think I'm not objective, but they either are biased themselves, or are not biased, but assume bias when I'm simply losing my temper (a personal problem I also confess to).
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

WHO IS JESUS REALLY?
