Forums - Nintendo - Is Wiiware really this bad?

People on Wii Online:

"It's good for a first try give them a chance! Honestly I don't mind friend codes or laggy games or lack of voice chat or the failure of Wii-ware or the lack of quality VC games... It adds to the charm :D"

People on PSN:

"WTF no in-game XMB? No friends list invite? Sony sucks ass!"

Inexcusable for a company worth billions. Stop defending crap services, start demanding better.

I like how you file everything that isn't said by you under "people." It's as if everybody else in the world is some faceless hive entity working against you. Cute.

Storage is certainly a problem, but Nintendo already promised a solution for that.

The rest of it is just ignorance. Mario is the progress bar. Storing credit card numbers on a video game system is a BAAAAAD idea. I'm sure Nintendo would just love to be sued by a thousand parents who weren't aware their credit card was stored after their kid went to town and bought 30 VC and WW games.

All it asks is the number, exp. date, and security code. You should have those memorized anyway.

Heh.  Yeah, I prefer my credit card info not be stored for anyone who powers on my console to use.

Are people really in that much of a hurry that they don't want to take the 2 minutes to put in their credit card numbers or wait for something to download?

Like everyone else has said though, storage needs some kind of fix. I haven't downloaded anything in awhile because I'm out of space.

2 minutes is a lot of time.

Several people in the world make 200K dollars a year, so let's go from that. There are 8760 hours a year (abouts). That means there are about 260K 2 minuters a year, so 2 minutes of my time, off work, is about 90 cents!

Nintendo ripped me off almost 5 dollars!!!

Uh, that seems to be the general response of the respective fanbases.

friend codes

Fair enough... they suck.

laggy games

Examples? Anyone? Anyone? Bueler? The only one I can think of that even has minor lag is Brawl, and only if you are playing someone in Mexico with a really crappy internet connection (a fact of all games).

the failure of Wii-ware

I didn't realize having unprecedented developer support for a digital arcade service consituted a failure.

the lack of quality VC games

I didn't realize Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64, Super Mario World, A Link to the Past, all the Sonic games, Super Mario Bros. 1-3, Donkey Kong Country 1-3, Kid Icarus, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Super Metroid, Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2, F-Zero, Super Ghosts 'n Ghouls, Contra III, Actraiser, Kirby's Adventure, 1080 Snowboarding, all versions of Street Fighter 2, Breath of Fire II, Harvest Moon, Super Turrican, Tecmo Bowl, Punch Out, Mario Kart 64, Sin & Punishment, Paper Mario, F-Zero X, Wave Race 64, Kirby 64, Golden Axe 1-3, Ecco the Dolphin 1 and 2, Streets of Rage 1-3, Virtua Fighter 2, Shining Force, Phantasy Star 1-3, Ristar, and Gunstar Heroes were all bad games.

Thank god we've got Sony around to give us quality stuff like... Spyro?

Stop mocking fazz or he will eat probably even more than he already does now.

The three Spyro games on PS1 are good. Bash something else.

Hehe I wondered if anyone would get the Fazz reference.

Also, I'm not saying they aren't good (though they haven't aged all that well, I loved them as a kid)... I'm just saying there isn't a whole lot else on there that is, and certainly not a comparable amount to Virtual Console.

yeah, because I want to memorize more numbers. Why don't parents just pay attention to their credit cards? I love that my credit card is saved on PSN. The most someone can buy is a few hundred I believe. That's nothing compared to if someone actually...I dunno...stole the credit card. If my PS3 gets stolen that's $500 down the drain. Anyone who says the minutes it takes to download isn't a big deal better not be complaining about PS3 game installs. "Go to the bathroom, get a sandwich" are solutions proposed for game installs that actually make load times faster. Not having background downloading is only not a bigger deal because of the storage problem (something that many people have been complaining about that Wii owners are finally admitting). If demos were actually available for games it would be a lot worse. Mario as a progress bar is annoying, but that's a minor issue that shouldn't exist because of background downloading.

If someone steals your PS3 they could access your credit card number, copy the card and spend a lot more than $500.

Yes it is unlikely, but possible.

@bdbdbd, I don't think that is true, a number of times I have counted the coins between mario hitting the blocks, never all at once but I am pretty sure it is 13 between each block hit whatever size the game is.

It only shows you the last 4 digits of the credit card. Thankfully, not everyone thinks like Nintendo does. Most online websites save your credit card number, too. What you're saying is that if someone steals my PC they can get my credit card because I bought a book from amazon.com.

It actually annoys me quite a bit that my credit card information is probably stored in a multitude of servers around the globe, some of which aren't probably very secure, and there's very little I can do about it save from not buying anything online. I even think it's a security concern that Firefox (at least, dunno what other browsers do this) remembers what you input in a credit card purchase form, as it means that the information is stored in my computer in a non-secure manner. Of course, if somebody steals my computer, I'm already screwed, but I don't like the idea of having to change my credit card because of that.

I frankly don't understand how so many people act so indifferent about their credit cards. It's not so hard to enter the credit card number when you buy something, and if you really want convenience then it's IMO best to go the Nintendo way and use virtual currency that you can buy in chunks and spend as you please. That way it's safe and secure and convenient.

It is ALWAYS an option to save your credit card information. Most people do it because I've not heard of a massive breach in amazon.com security of credit card information. The firefox feature is awesome and password protected. As for people complaining about parents and their apparent lack of control of just about anything: I'm glad so many Nintendo fans have just accepted the company line that every bad online feature is there to protect children. You know, a lot of children have been doing ok with good online features for over a decade. Also, if a parent is giving a child a credit card to order stuff online JUST ONCE, I think they are going to at least watch what the kid does before they just walk away assuming only $5 will be spent. You don't need a credit card to be stored to steal money from your parents. They have wallets/purses, too, but luckily those are still for sale and don't have to be thrown away every time they are used. When can we stop worrying about little kids and get decent features like everyone else has?

Well I don't mind friend code, I do have a problem when it is codes. Voice chat would be nice, but preferably limited to friends only. ---- Laggy online? I have probably played over 1000 races on MKWii now and about 5 I noticed lag, (3 of them may have been due to etuyos connection which seems to affect the rest of us) failure of Wiiware and VC is also a bullshit comment.

I wouldn't start comparing PSN to Nintendo's service...that's a losing battle. Yes, Sony could do a lot more with US PS1 games (Japan has a lot), but it's not like every PS3 system can't play all PS1 games and most can play most PS2 games already, with upscaling. Nintendo has slowed VC releases to pretty much crap in several months. Meanwhile PSN has great stuff nearly every week to download, including games (so far higher quality than Wiiware), demos, Rock Band songs, etc.
