Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy Agito XIII cancelled?

@alpha_dk

no I wouldn't like an FF7 remake on the DS

as remakes can only have mainly 1 improved thing....grfx

putting it on the DS would be one of the worst mistakes S-E could make

apart from ofcourse naming airships as summons from previous FF games.

I know I just don't understand

FF7 has a 10 million Fanbase.....FF8 has an 8 million fanbase....FF9 has a 5 million fanbase

they are instead going for FF1 - 6 remakes all of which never crossed 4 million

I understand why.

They said they didn't want to remake FF7 unless all the main players were freed up to work on it.

Why? Because FF7 would take a LOT of reworking to fix the flaws of the PS1 version.

If they just do a straight remake with better graphics they have a better then decent chance of diminishing FF7's brand value. Which means they can't cash in on anymore spinoffs.

There is so much they've need to rework... and just outrewrite as far as American dialogue goes... probably have to change a few scenes that just wouldn't work with todays audience...

It'd be a huge underaking for a next gen console vs a handheld port.

Well barring FF7 remake

I WANT AN FF 6 REMAKE....on Wii

BTW why does every Final Fantasy topic thread (whether it be on XIII or other spin-offs) turn into a discussion about FF7 & past games

I'd like to think it partially has to do with the fact that FF13 is trying to recapture FF7's success like no game since. What with them admitting that the main character is "Female cloud".

Though i don't think that... I think it's more that some FF7 fans annoyingly bring up FF7 all the time when their is no need too in most RPG threads.

darth, FFVII doesn't have a 10 mill. fanbase. Copies sold does not equal fanbase at all. But the game is so great and cool that a transition to third generation PS3 graphics would make a brand new amazing game for all the people who were too young back then or just missed it. For many 'new' gamers it could become the best game of the PS3 or this gen................. and Kasz, what is the 'LOT' of reworking you are talking about and the 'so much they've need to rework' you talk about besides the translations from the Japanese, that won't even involve most of the important developers, and a few scenes you think they might rewrite?

@kasz

yeah its obvious S-E is trying very hard for a FF7 success again....if they manage to pull it off I think Ps3 will gain more than anything in Japan..

I just wanna know why you guys clamor for remakes. Don't you own FF VII? I don't see why you want to buy a remake of a game you already own, especially since the only difference is graphics >_>

Sequels to FF games please. I really want sequels to FF VIII and FF IX.

Own the game?.... I've got 8 original copies of the game lol.. and I only want it cause i'm still playing it, so being able to replay the game and see the world from new perspectives will make the experience fresh again, if done well, and of course some extra's like 1 or 2 new Weapons to fight against would be very welcome, and imagine what Square could do with the Gold Saucer!

Well for dialogue... almost all of it. The english dialogue was just horrible. The whole over the top crossdressing thing i can't see working in on a modern console for the modern fanbase. Really a lot of the "silly" moments don't jive with the darker tone they've been pushing since... which you'd need developer approval on. As would all the little things they'll want to add to show even more connection to the prequel and setting up for the sequels.

Also since the dialogue will be spoken now.  You'd want the writers and creative team to be their to make sure the voice actors are conveying the right emotion.

 Yeah, for me it's the make of break game for the PS3 in Japan.

It's the most interesting release out there not that Wii Fit is released in terms of sales trends in my opinion.

FF13 is the second strongest brand in Japan... should be interesting to see how much it can fight back agaisnt Japans 1 console per generation trend that's been going on since the days of the NES.

Will hardware stay up after it's release... or will it just be a one month wonder.  It's a shame Sony couldn't get Dev kits to these guys sooner, or flown them a larger team... or something.

Of course i probably wouldn't of either in Sony's position.  I'd of thought for sure my dominance in japan was assured.
