The trailer shows 20 seconds of a night scene.
Resistance 1 was quite bright through most of the game, and that little trailer is all we have seen from Resistance 2.

That's not true. In the real world, there are no color filters that turn everything one color. In Gears, there is. Dunno why. On the battlefield, blood is still red, not greyish-red.
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

end of core gaming days prediction:
E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced
E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.
E3 2010- Tape runs out

You are unfairly categorizing the HD games. Only the most popular ones use the greyish hue. The less popular games often tend to have great artstyles.
It's ironic, however, that HD console owners are the ones who try to play up "games are art" then buy games that are as realistic as possible.

It is Folklore. The 4th one you asked about up there was Mirror's Edge Yushire.
Here are a few more games that can brighten up your day in HD:

For the record, I can easily find just as many grey and brown dominated games, but they certainly aren't the only thing around.

A new game, like Okami. As in a game similar to Okami, not Okami itself. I suppose that wasn't clear. |
It was clear... still a new game with an art style similar (not a totally rip-off) to okamy would be nice...
Edit, no Bioshock???

There ya go. Lost Odyssey and Eternal Sonata also have great colorful artstyles.
Also, this really makes me wish Banjo was a pure platformer.

No, he doesn't have to try to state a fact. Many publishers making realistic graphics, tend to dull their games by given them a greyish hue. Killzone 2 and Gears of War 2 are two of the biggest offenders, judging from their screenshots. Even Yhatzee mentions it in his latest review. It's a disturbing trend. Good luck on pretending that he has no point, and this is the first time you've ever heard this argument. Nice try, though.
I've said it once, and I'll say it again. I'd throw Gears of War 2, and Killzone 2 in the trash to play a demo of a new game like Okami, or Mirror's Edge. Not only do I find their artstyle uninspired, but more importantly the single player campaign in Gears one, which I recently completely, was severely dissapointing. |
That's because most games are dark games. Condemed 2, The Darkness and Dark Sector as pointed out, would have a ruined environment if everything was bright. Gears of War and Killzone 2, could be brighter, but it isn't a huge deal. Games like Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, Uncharted, Resistance and more are all quite bright.

you are corerct,
Anyways, the grays and lack of color fit the areas played. Look at gears, in Gears 2 when in some areas the sky is bue but the rocks and everything are natural drab colors. Same with Killzone. The colors are what they would be realistically. Crysis is in a different setting ie the jungle, not some wasteland or destroyed city.

Personally I tend to shy away from too many realistic games. I buy one or two a year at the most. I despised Medal of Honor Heroes 2 for Wii largely because of its horrible color palette. My "realistic" game last year was Call of Duty 4, and it had more color than most grey and brown games. This year I may not buy one at all.
