How long?

The definition of mastery is subject to change, but here is what I mean by it.

Mastery is you can do anything the game asks of you and you can do it amazingly. Any bosses, levels, side-quests, and additional tasks, you can do them.

For me, it takes about 1-3 weeks, depending on the length of the game. A short game will take me a week, one longer than 10 hours will take 2 weeks, and one longer than 25 hours takes 3 weeks.

So, how long on average does it take you to master a video game?

It depends on the genre:

- Racing games takes a day to me to master playing with manual shifting.
- FPS on the wii in a day to get used to the best controls. PC as well.
- RPGs can take a week or two.

I do not mean learning curve.

I mean going back and defeating the hardest boss in the game with little to no effort.

That is what I mean by mastery.

I usually do the story first which take me about a month to finish if its a game like Zelda.
I don't usually do extras if I don't have anything else to play after that.

Yes Soriku, 3 days.

3 days? 3 weeks? what kind of games do you mean?

''Hadouken!''

for example, FFVII, some games cannot be perfected like the amount of gil you can make in FFVII; i'm at 2,5 billion gil and the counter keeps running.. maxing the stats out of all the 8 characters of FFVII wil also take you a half year or something like that; plus things like having Aeris at 99 before she dies and maxed as much as possible, plus 99 times her final limit break will also take you loooooooooooooooooooooong..

''Hadouken!''

oh yea, it will also take you very long to make Vincent's final weapon hit 9999 (he needs to personally, physically with thate weapon, so no magic, kill 9999 enemies), or make chocobuckle hit 9999, that means you have to flee from battle 9999 times..

Video games?

Say how long each type of genre takes you.

For me:

Platformers are only about 5 days.

Racers are one week.

RPG's are two weeks. Long ones are 3 weeks.

Say how easy a genre is to master.

Yes, Soriku can master ANY game in 3 days on WC-level.

Back on-topic:

It depends, some games, like Mario Kart Wii (timetrials) or Super Smash Bros are games that you can never fully master. This is because there are these subtle improvements that you learn and (try to) master over time. Thus you can still improve your skills in the game a few months/years after you got it. Although the curve in which you get better decreases rapidly.
