They are making a reasonable amount of money right now and the Weak USD probably is why they didn't drop the price. Snoy wants to wait a bit longer before a price cut having said the release of GTA4.

Well, if losing $280 Million dollars last quarter = making a reasonable amount of money, then I don't want you for an accountant.

And that is the loss after including all of the profit from the PS2, PSP, and all the software on all 3 systems. This tells us that the PS3 hardware is still losing a HUGE amount of money.

Or it means the Ps2/Psp arent as profitable as most assume/speculate... or it could mean that they are spending money on R&D for a slim Ps3 model...

Or it could mean you DONT KNOW WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON IN THE INNER WORKINGS OF SONY!

I love people who spout assumptions and speculations as facts.

I'll spout whatever I want, that's why its called a FORUM.

You can believe whatever you want, but I'll try to stick to a logical analysis. Your going to tell me the PS2 has suddenly gotten less profitable? Yeah, that realistic.

Actually thats very realistic. Less software, hardware, and peripherals sold = less profit. Unless Sony has a steady of sales on the Ps2/software/peripherals/any thing else that sales at a gain for them then the Ps2 can very well become less profitable. There comes a point when things dont bring in as much/enough money. Or else we would have walkmen and laser discs still.

Uh... how profitable the Ps2 and PSP was all speculation to begin with. Youre speculating on speculation. And the fact remains. You dont know what the fuck is going on with Sony. You can assume your explination is reasonable but that doesnt change the fact you are assuming.

How profitable the PS2 has been is far from speculation.  Look at the Sony game division profits from 2002-2006.  You have another reason for this other than the PS2.  Is this too logical for you to understand?

It's not speculation? Okay give me a breakdown of P&L of the Sony Corporation over the last decade. I want you to show me all of Sony's spendings and on what the spent their money on and how much their investment returned to them on each piece of HW and SW.

No, its not speculation.  Would you like to enlighten us with the reason for the sony gaming division profits for 2002-2006 other than the PS2?  This I would like to hear.

I'm still waiting on that breakdown. If it isn't speculation on how much the system is making surely you know how many parts are order, how much each part costs, how much it costs to keep the production line running, exactly how much each employee of the company makes, how much it costs to send people on business trips, how much it costs to develop a game and exactly how many copies it has sold and at how much each copy returns. Come on... If it's not speculation give me all these figures. I know someone who has all these figures... you want to know who... SONY FUCKING CORPORATION! So if it isnt speculation you know the inner workings of sony corp dont ya? I could give you a fucking breakdown of my resturaunt if I wanted to.

It's not speculation because its in all of their financial reports. I guess that's too much for you to figure out. Go find them, its not that hard. Well, maybe for someone of your limit mental capacity, it just might be.

A. I reported you for your insult, and you show that you can't prove diddly squat with that comment. B. Their financial reports don't have breakdowns. C. If you know exactly how profitable the Ps2 is I'll accept how many individual parts are ordered and how much each part costs. Also if you see above things can and will eventually become less profitable over time. If things never became less profitable it would not make much business sense to discontinue anything.

Don't insult people.  This is your warning.

A) Didn't realize you were so sensitive.

B) Your right, they don't give parts breakdowns.  But they do tell you what made and lost money at the console level.

C) Your wrong, the PS2 is still selling for $129 and selling well.  Things only get less profitable if they stop selling.  If not for the competition of MS and Nintendo, I'm sure we wouldn't have seen the PS3 as early as we did.  I'm sure Sony would have waited another year.

Havent you heard... Ps2 has been selling less and less consoles year after year.

Also their software has been suffering too.

And I'm pretty sure they don't sell nearly as memory cards and extra dualshocks as they use to.

Thus being less profitable.

Sony will only cut the price again this year if Microsoft and Nintendo force them too like they did last year.

Personally, I think they WILL have a $50 price cut just to compete. Profit is the most important thing, but prestige does mean SOMETHING to Sony. They have gone from an amazing first to a dramatic last in the space of two years. Now they are getting pawned by Nintendo and just leading Microsoft, whom they were always supposed to wipe the floor with, and are still well behind overall.

I hope they cut the price, I'm buying one early next year (unless WKS, Versus and Heavy Rain get massively delayed).
