Forums - Sales - Lower USD = cheaper sales WW?

I live n Canada and everyday the USD is getting lower, could this mean that the rest of the world will see sale prices start to fall.  Right now we pay $100 more for our gaming systems and alot more for everthying else, from gas to cars, latest predictions have the Canadian dollar going past the USD this year, I'm not sure how the systems are sold in the US but in Canada the systems are starting to get more games and stuff packed with the console.  PS3 and 360 have different deals everyweek, this week was the PS3 with the F1 game and the vertical stand, The xbox has GRAW and the arcade pack, plus they added Forza 2 to the pack.

Do the systems in the US have deals like this or is this the market correcting the sales of the systems by adding more games and stuff to the consoles.

I hope it means that. Why else should we pay a 10-15% mark-up when our dollar is only 7 cents away from being 1:1? I doubt it'll happen since it means more money for companies, not just console companies.

For Sony and Nintendo, the yen has more to do with world pricing than the US dollar.

Not in Canada. traditionally, Nintendo consoles have been $50 more in Canada than the U.S. With the rising dollar, the Wii released at 279.99, only 30 more than the U.S's 250.  Hopefully Canucks will see prices brought in line with the States soon. But it's a big hope.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I doubt I will see the prices fall, even though the USD is getting lower. The prices here in Europe are always the same as the US one, but only in USD, so everything is more expensive here. If the USD is getting lower it will just mean that the prices here will only become more expensive by comparison with the USD

I think that if anything, you'd see a price increase in the US,not a decrease in other places. Is the US involved in the manufacturing at all?

The articles I've been reading have been suggesting that the CAN dollar is getting stronger of its own accord, not just relative to the US dollar. I also saw mention of the Euro getting stronger versus the Yen, so maybe there's good news for all of us crazy foreigners.

Maybe they won't reassess the console prices out of the kindness of their hearts just yet, but I'm hoping there'll be a call for it in the event of a price drop (in theory, since they're assigning a new price, they should assess prices all over the world based on current exchange rates). For instance, if the CAN dollar matches the USD when the PS3 price drop comes (say $100 US), we would drop straight from $699 to $499. I'd be pretty pleased about that.
